The microplastics in aquatic ecosystems pose a serious threat to ecological security and environmental health, which have received widespread attention. To reveal the response of a water--sediment system to microplastics exposure, the was exposed to polyethylene microplastics (PE-MPs) with different mass fractions (1%-5%, sediment wet mass fraction), and the effects of PE-MPs on the physiochemical indicators of water quality, morphological characteristics of submerged plants, physiological characters, antioxidant system, and microbial community structure in sediments were studied respectively. The results showed that the physiochemical properties of the water body were not significantly changed in the PE-MPs treatment group, whereas the plant height, oxidative stress index, and antioxidant system were significantly inhibited.

Background: Bladder tumor is the fifth most prevalent tumor in men, yet its pathogenesis remains to be fully identified. Albeit a host of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNA) are emerging as new players involved in bladder tumor, the functions of many lncRNAs are still enigmatic. The Backshore Wetland of Expo Garden, Shanghai was one of the key parts of the World Expo construction project in 2010. From September 2009 to August 2010, a monthly investigation was conducted to understand the spatiotemporal dynamics of cladocera community structure (including species composition and standing crop) and related main affecting factors in the Backshore Wetland. A total of 36 cladocera species in 13 genera of 5 families were identified through the year.

From April 2007 to January 2008, a bioremediation experiment was conducted in a diversion channel of D-port pilot area of Dishui Lake (the channel length is 950 m, and its water volume is 10000 m3). Daphnia magna was first introduced to filter the high biomass of phytoplankton and other particulate organic matter, and then, five submerged plant species Elodea canadensis, Vallisneria spiralis, Hydrilla verticillata, Potamogeton lucens, and Potamogeton crispus were transplanted. Water samples were collected monthly to monitor the water quality and to investigate the bioremediation efficiency.
