Image-based spatial transcriptomics platforms are powerful tools often used to identify cell populations and describe gene expression in intact tissue. Spatial experiments return large, high-dimension datasets and several open-source software packages are available to facilitate analysis and visualization. Spatial results are typically imperfect.

Background: Chromosome abnormalities are a leading cause of conception failure and pregnancy loss. While traditional cytogenetics technologies like karyotyping have been helpful in identifying structural variations (SVs), they face challenges in detecting complex rearrangements and cryptic structures. In this study, we developed a new method called chromosome conformation based karyotyping (C-MoKa) to comprehensively detect different types of chromosomal abnormalities in patients with conception failure and pregnancy loss.

Previous reviews and meta-analysis have not adequately explored the impact of specific parental adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) subtypes on offspring's health. This updated systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to investigate the association between parental ACE subtypes and various offspring health outcomes. A comprehensive search was conducted in electronic databases including PubMed, Web of Science, the Cochrane Library, WANFANG, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure for studies published in English and Chinese from January 1, 1998, until July 18, 2023.

Background: Chronic pain poses a clinical challenge due to its associated costly disability and treatment needs. Determining how pain transitions from acute to chronic is crucial for effective management. Upregulation of the chemokine C-X-C motif ligand 12 (CXCL12) in nociceptive pathway is associated with chronic pain.

Objective: Explore alterations in topological features of gray matter volume (GMV) and structural networks in non-cognitive impairment end-stage renal disease (Non-CI ESRD).

Materials And Methods: Utilizing graph theory, we collected structural magnetic resonance imaging (sMRI) data from 38 Non-CI ESRD patients and 50 normal controls (NC). We compared, and extracted the GMV across subject groups, constructed corresponding structural covariance networks (SCNs), and investigated the alterations in SCNs feature parameters between groups.

Non-Hermitian systems offer a compelling platform for enhancing sensitivity in measurement applications. Here, we propose a multimode non-Hermitian optical configuration comprising three coupled whispering-gallery-mode microcavities and a waveguide. The transmission spectrum of the configuration reveals valleys influenced by zeros and poles of polynomial ratios and can exhibit higher-order scattering zeros.

Several novel anthropometric indices, including paediatric body adiposity index (BAIp) and triponderal mass index (TMI), have emerged as potential tools for estimating body fat in preschool children. However, their comparative validity and accuracy, particularly when compared with established indicators such as BMI, have not been thoroughly investigated. This cross-sectional study enrolled 2869 preschoolers aged 3-6 years in Wuhan, China.

Co-infection with novel goose parvovirus (NGPV) and novel duck reovirus (NDRV) is common, significantly impeding duck growth and resulting in considerable economic losses within the duck farming industry. To facilitate rapid and accurate diagnosis and differentiation of these two viruses, this study developed a SYBR Green I-based duplex real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) assay. This assay enabled the simultaneous detection of NGPV and NDRV by exploiting their distinct melting temperatures (Tm): 78.

Purpose: To describe and evaluate the multimodal imaging findings in retinal microvascular ischemia associated with COVID-19 infection.

Methods: Patients with COVID-19 associated retinal microvascular ischemia and visiting the outpatient Department of Ophthalmology, Shanghai General Hospital from December 2022, to February 2023, were documented and their multimodal images were retrospectively reviewed. was defined as the presence of isolated or multiple focal retinal whitening(s) on color fundus images.

Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most malignant brain tumor frequently characterized by a hypoxic microenvironment. In this investigation, we unveiled unprecedented role of Ribonuclease 4 (RNASE4) in GBM pathogenesis through integrative methodologies. Leveraging The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) dataset and clinical specimens from normal brain tissues, low- and high-grade gliomas, alongside rigorous and functional analyses, we identified a consistent upregulation of RNASE4 correlating with advanced GBM pathological stages and poor clinical survival outcomes.

Soil plastisphere has attracted many concerns, however, its influence on cadmium (Cd) availability in paddy soil was still unclear. This study carried out batch microcosmic and bagging experiments to explore the influence of microplastic (MPs) on Cd availability in paddy soil under flooding conditions in the view of plastisphere. Results showed that the presence of MPs could act as plastisphere micro-environment.

We present an enhancer AAV toolbox for accessing and perturbing striatal cell types and circuits. Best-in-class vectors were curated for accessing major striatal neuron populations including medium spiny neurons (MSNs), direct and indirect pathway MSNs, as well as Sst-Chodl, Pvalb-Pthlh, and cholinergic interneurons. Specificity was evaluated by multiple modes of molecular validation, three different routes of virus delivery, and with diverse transgene cargos.

Purpose: This study aims to identify patient subgroups who benefit more from perioperative immunotherapy combined with chemotherapy (IO-CT) based on clinical and molecular characteristics in resectable non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Methods: Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on perioperative IO-CT were searched. Beneficial differences of IO-CT regimens across different patient subgroups were assessed by pooling trial-specific ratios in event-free survival (EFS), overall survival (OS), pathological complete response (pCR), and major pathological response (MPR).

Neuron tracing, alternately referred to as neuron reconstruction, is the procedure for extracting the digital representation of the three-dimensional neuronal morphology from stacks of microscopic images. Achieving accurate neuron tracing is critical for profiling the neuroanatomical structure at single-cell level and analyzing the neuronal circuits and projections at whole-brain scale. However, the process often demands substantial human involvement and represents a nontrivial task.

Digital reconstruction of the intricate 3D morphology of individual neurons from microscopic images is a crucial challenge in both individual laboratories and large-scale projects focusing on cell types and brain anatomy. This task often fails in both conventional manual reconstruction and state-of-the-art artificial intelligence (AI)-based automatic reconstruction algorithms. It is also challenging to organize multiple neuroanatomists to generate and cross-validate biologically relevant and mutually agreed upon reconstructions in large-scale data production.

Background: Articular cartilage has limited self-repair capacity, and current clinical treatment options for cartilage defects are inadequate. However, deer antler cartilage possesses unique regenerative properties, with the ability to rapidly repair itself. This rapid self-repair process is closely linked to the paracrine factors released by deer antler stem cells.

Article Synopsis
  • * Researchers created a special tool (dynamic nomogram) to help doctors predict which patients are more likely to experience this bleeding.
  • * They discovered factors like certain medications and the size and location of the polyps that increase the risk, and their tool showed good results in predicting outcomes for different patient groups.

Aim: To analyze the changes in scientific output relating to Leber congenital amaurosis (LCA) and forecast the study trends in this field.

Methods: All of the publications in the field of LCA from 2002 to 2022 were collected from Web of Science (WOS) database. We analyzed the quantity (number of publications), quality (citation and H-index) and development trends (relative research interest, RRI) of published LCA research over the last two decades.

Carbon dioxide reduction reaction (CORR) provides a promising method for syngas synthesis. However, it is challenging to balance the CORR activity and hydrogen (H)/carbon monoxide (CO) ratios due to the limited mass transport and inefficient catalytic interface. Herein, we adopt a nitrogen (N)-modification method to synthesize N-modified nickel antimony nanowires (N-NiSb NWs/C), which are efficient for producing syngas with controllable H/CO ratios.
