The impact of community-based, non-pharmaceutical interventions on anxiety and depression in fibromyalgia: A systematic review and network meta-analysis.

Background: Fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) is often accompanied by anxiety and depression, seriously affecting the prognosis of patients. Active non-pharmacological therapies are the mainstay of treatment, but the optimal choice is still contentious.

Methods: We did a network meta-analysis(NMA) of RCTs and compared 7 community-based non-pharmacological interventions based on 29 studies.

Elevated cerebrospinal fluid biomarkers of neuroinflammation and neuronal damage in essential hypertension with secondary insomnia: Implications for Alzheimer's disease risk.

Essential hypertension (EH) with secondary insomnia is associated with increased risks of neuroinflammation, neuronal damage, and Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, its relationship with specific cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) biomarkers of neuronal damage and neuroinflammation remains unclear. This case-control study compared CSF biomarker levels across three groups: healthy controls (HC, n = 64), hypertension-controlled (HTN-C, n = 54), and hypertension-uncontrolled (HTN-U, n = 107) groups, all EH participants experiencing secondary insomnia.

Exploring core symptoms of alcohol withdrawal syndrome in alcohol use disorder patients: a network analysis approach.

Background: Understanding the interplay between psychopathology of alcohol withdrawal syndrome (AWS) in alcohol use disorder (AUD) patients may improve the effectiveness of relapse interventions for AUD. Network theory of mental disorders assumes that mental disorders persist not of a common functional disorder, but from a sustained feedback loop between symptoms, thereby explaining the persistence of AWS and the high relapse rate of AUD. The current study aims to establish a network of AWS, identify its core symptoms and find the bridges between the symptoms which are intervention target to relieve the AWS and break the self-maintaining cycle of AUD.

Background: Apoprotein A-I (ApoA-I) and Apoprotein B (ApoB) have emerged as novel cardiovascular risk biomarkers influenced by feeding behavior. Hypothalamic appetite peptides regulate feeding behavior and impact lipoprotein levels, which effects vary in different weight states. This study explores the intricate relationship between body mass index (BMI), hypothalamic appetite peptides, and apolipoproteins with emphasis on the moderating role of body weight in the association between neuropeptide Y (NPY), ghrelin, orexin A (OXA), oxytocin in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and peripheral ApoA-I and ApoB.

Cerebrospinal fluid mesencephalic astrocyte-derived neurotrophic factor: A moderating effect on sleep time and cognitive function.

Background: Sleeping late has been associated with cognitive impairment, and insufficient sleep can affect the secretion of feeding-related cytokines. Feeding-related cytokines may contribute to cognitive deficits resulting from delayed bedtime. Glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) and mesencephalic astrocyte-derived neurotrophic factor (MANF), which are feeding-related neurotrophic factors, have been associated with improved cognitive function and neuroprotective abilities.

Despite the importance of neural adaptation processes in AWS, limited genetic investigations have been conducted.

Long-term second-generation antipsychotics decreases bone formation and resorption in male patients with schizophrenia.

Rationale: Patients with schizophrenia with second-generation antipsychotics (SGAs) treatment have shown an increased risk of bone fragility and susceptibility to fracture; however, it is still unclear whether this risk is derived from the effect of antipsychotics on balance of bone metabolism.

Objectives: We investigated the changes of two bone turnover biomarkers (BTMs) concentrations in people with schizophrenia receiving SGAs: procollagen type I aminoterminal propeptide (PINP) and C-terminal telopeptide of type I collagen (CTX-1) as BTMs of osteogenesis and bone resorption, respectively, to explore how antipsychotics contribute to bone fragility.

Methods: We recruited 59 Chinese male patients with schizophrenia (32 drug-naïve first-episode (DNFE) patients and 27 chronic patients) to undergo 8 weeks SGAs treatment.

Association of Oxidative Stress and Proinflammation with Insomnia in Perimenopause.

The levels of oxidative stress and proinflammatory factors in perimenopausal females increased, and they were also deeply troubled by insomnia. The occurrence of insomnia is related to the changes of oxidative stress and inflammation levels in the body. Perimenopausal insomnia may be related to mild systemic inflammation, and oxidative stress can promote chronic inflammation.

Efficacy of nondrug interventions in perinatal depression: A meta-analysis.

Perinatal depression causes significant harm to mothers and unborn infants. Nondrug intervention is a common and acceptable method for reducing perinatal depression in pregnant women; however, it lacks an evidence-based basis. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of nondrug interventions, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT), and yoga, in reducing perinatal depression.

Quantification of a new recreational drug 2-methoxyqualone in human hair using gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry.

A method for identification and quantification of 2-methoxyqualone, an newly emerging quinazolinone derivative recreational drug, in human scalp hair was established using gas chromatography (GC)-tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS). In this report, authentic cases are presented, in which the suspects were seized by police security bureau; the police in China requested our laboratory to identify and quantify the involved drug(s) of abuse in the hair samples of the suspects. After washing and cryo-grinding the authentic hair samples, the target compound was extracted with methanol, and the solvent layer was evaporated to dryness.

Risks of Digestive System Side-Effects of Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors in Patients with Depression: A Network Meta-Analysis.

Purpose: Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are the preferred treatments for depression. The most common adverse drug reactions are symptoms involving the digestive system, leading to low compliance in patients with depression. Therefore, it is important to assess the safety of SSRIs with respect to the digestive system.

Association of Fatigue With Sleep Duration and Bedtime During the Third Trimester.

Purpose: To investigate the association between fatigue and sleep habits of pregnant women to further explore the effect of sleep duration and bedtime on fatigue during the third trimester.

Materials And Methods: A total of 465 Chinese Han pregnant women in the third trimester (after 28 weeks) with a singleton gestation were recruited. Sleep habits (such as bedtime, sleep onset latency, and night sleep duration) and the 14-item Fatigue Scale scores (FS-14, used to assess fatigue) were collected.

Determining nonesterified and total docosahexaenoic acid and eicosapenaenoic acid concentrations by LC-MS/MS in the plasma of patients with schizophrenia.

Nonesterified, total docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapenaenoic acid (EPA) plasma levels were evaluated in patients with schizophrenia on different medications compared with healthy individuals using validated LC-MS/MS methods. Samples for nonesterified DHA and EPA assay were extracted in n-hexane-dichloromethane-isopropyl alcohol (2:1:0.1, V/V/V) and hydrolyzed at 90°C for 2 h before total DHA and EPA determination.

Association of Acute Postoperative Pain and Cigarette Smoking With Cerebrospinal Fluid Levels of Beta-Endorphin and Substance P.

: Cigarette smoking is associated with postoperative pain perception, which might be mediated by beta-endorphin and substance P. These effects on postoperative pain perception have never been investigated in human cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), which reflects biochemical alterations in the brain. Therefore, we investigated the associations among cigarette smoking, postoperative pain, and levels of beta-endorphin and substance P in human CSF.

Association of Cigarette Smoking With Male Cognitive Impairment and Metal Ions in Cerebrospinal Fluid.

Cigarette smoking might accelerate cognitive impairment; however, this has never been investigated using human cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). We conducted this study to investigate the association between cigarette smoking and cognitive impairment through metal ions in CSF. We obtained 5-ml CSF samples from routine lumbar puncture procedures in patients undergoing anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction before surgery in China.

The Association Between Hypoxia Improvement and Electroconvulsive Therapy for Major Depressive Disorder.

Background: The occurrence of depression was related with a state of mild hypoxia for a long time. Hypoxia-inducible factor-2α (HIF-2α) modulates the process from acute to chronic hypoxia, consequently regulating changes in inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS). Increasing levels of iNOS combined with major depressive disorder (MDD) have been associated with the concentration of interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), which increase the severity of depression.

Career choice and influential factors among medical students majoring in psychiatry in China.

Background: The undergraduate program of psychiatry has been widely established in recent years to improve the education and recruitment of psychiatrists in China. We aim to investigate the career choice of medical students majoring in psychiatry in China and the influential factors.

Method: This multicenter study was conducted in 26 medical schools in China from May to October of 2019.
