The hybrid quantum system of cold atomic gas and optical cavity can host many exotic phenomena including phase transitions and multistabilities. In this Letter, we investigate the effect of photon hopping between two Dicke cavities and show rich quantum phases for steady states and dynamic processes. Starting from a generic dimer system where the two cavities are not necessarily identical, we analytically obtain all possible steady-state phases and confirm their existence by numerical calculations.

The Cryogenian Sturtian and Marinoan Snowball Earth glaciations bracket a nonglacial interval during which Demosponge and green-algal biomarkers first appear. Dwell fatigue, the reduction in fatigue life experienced by titanium alloys due to holds at stresses as low as 60% of yield, has been implicated in several uncontained jet engine failures. Dislocation slip has long been observed to be an intermittent, scale-bridging phenomenon, similar to that seen in earthquakes but at the nanoscale, leading to the speculation that large stress bursts might promote the initial opening of a crack. Discrete dislocation plasticity (DDP) calculations were carried out to investigate a single-crystal response when subjected to nano-fretting loading conditions in its interaction with a rigid sinusoidal asperity. The effects of the contact size and preceding indentation on the surface stress and profile evolution due to nano-fretting were extensively investigated, with the aim to unravel the deformation mechanisms governing the response of materials subjected to nano-motion. The mechanistic drivers for the material's permanent deformations and surface modifications were shown to be the dislocations' collective motion and piling up underneath the contact.

The high accuracy, low drift low-level radio frequency (LLRF) system is essential for the long-term stability of the accelerator RF and the acquirement of low emittance, high intensity electron beams. A time-multiplexing pick-up/reference signal based LLRF system is proposed to deal with the component temperature related phase drift and has been deployed and applied at the Xi'an Gamma-ray Light Source (XGLS) injector. The long term dual-receiver out-of-loop stability experiments with a continuous wave laser based phase reference distribution system (PRDS) show that the LLRF system can achieve ∼40 fs Root-Mean-Square (rms) phase accuracy and 51 fs/52 fs peak-peak drift (in 7 days/17 h with the high power RF system, respectively) while the reference phase varies both ∼30 ps.
