Melatonin and fucoidan are naturally active compounds that have been reported to have therapeutic benefits for patients receiving cancer treatment. However, both compounds face significant challenges, including physical, chemical, and biological metabolisms in the gastrointestinal tract, which limit their ability to achieve therapeutic concentrations at the tumor site. Furthermore, the effectiveness of melatonin and fucoidan as adjuvants in vivo is influenced by the route of administration through the digestive system and their accumulation at the endpoint of the tumor.

Exploring Usability and Patient Attitude towards a Smart Hospital Service with the Technology Acceptance Model.

The demand for health care has increased with the development of global technology and the rise of public health awareness, and smart service systems have also been introduced to medical care to relieve the pressure on hospital staff. However, the survey found that patients' willingness to use smart services at the time of consultation has not improved. The main research purpose of this study was to understand the willingness of patients from various groups to use smart medical service systems and to explore the influencing factors on patients' use of smart service systems in hospitals through the technology acceptance model.

Secular trends of patients hospitalized for major osteoporotic fractures based on a national claims database.

Unlabelled: There was a reduction in the hospitalization rate for major osteoporotic fractures. As per our analysis, hospitalization for site-specific fractures showed a declining trend for hip and vertebral fractures for both the sexes. However, an increasing trend was noted in women regarding hospitalization for forearm fracture.

Airway Pressure Release Ventilation Combined With Prone Positioning in Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome: Old Tricks New Synergy: A Case Series.

Airway pressure release ventilation (APRV) shares several overlapping mechanisms with prone positioning in improving ventilation-perfusion mismatch in patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). However, the combination of APRV and prone positioning is seldom performed because assist/controlled ventilation remains the mainstay ventilatory mode. We describe 5 cases of severe ARDS where APRV and prone positioning were applied.

Transcription-independent and -dependent p53-mediated apoptosis in response to genotoxic and non-genotoxic stress.

We previously reported that p53-mediated apoptosis is determined by severity of DNA damage, not by the level of p53, in doxorubicin-treated prostate cancer cells. In addition to doxorubicin, our results here indicated that camptothecin and bortezomib, which are a topoisomerase 1 poison and a 26 S proteasome inhibitor, respectively, could also induce apoptosis in a p53-dependent manner in prostate cancer. Then, we examined whether p53-mediated apoptosis induced by genotoxic and non-genotoxic stress occur in the same or a different way.

A Survey on Satisfaction of Type 2 Diabetes Patients with Different Demographic Variables to Medical Services.

Taking Type 2 diabetes as the research object, and through questionnaire interviews, this study sought to determine the degree of satisfaction of patients with different attributes with medical services according to the distribution of demographic variables. Finally, the statistical results were taken as the reference basis for medical personnel to provide care to patients. Regarding the questionnaire survey, the questionnaire items were designed through face-to-face interviews aiming at their medical treatment process, thus, patients could truly reflect their feelings.

Stereoselective preparation of conjugated (Z)-1,3-enynes by dehydration reactions of allenic bromohydrins and the use of the enynes in base-mediated tandem allylation ene-carbocyclization reactions with β-ketoesters.

A procedure has been developed for the concise, stereoselective synthesis of (Z)-5-bromo-4-aryl-pent-3-en-1-ynes through Sc(OTf) catalyzed dehydration reactions of allenic bromohydrins. (Z)-1,3-Enynes are transformed to methylenecyclopentenes when subjected to a sequential, one-pot process involving base mediated allylation reactions with ethyl acetoacetate followed by ene-carbocyclization reactions. An unprecedented rearrangement reaction involving 1,5-acyl migration takes place when the methylenecyclopentenes are treated with acid to form highly substituted cyclopentadienes.

Tissue microarray analysis of interleukin-20 expression.

Knowledge about the biological functions and clinical implications of interleukin (IL)-20, a recently discovered cytokine in the IL-10 family, is still incomplete. Our aim was to determine the distribution of IL-20 expression and to delineate the cell types that express IL-20 in healthy and neoplastic tissue, because this information will significantly affect the exploration of its pathophysiological roles. We used tissue microarray technology and an immunohistochemical survey using an anti-IL-20 monoclonal antibody to examine IL-20 expression in 36 non-neoplastic and 14 neoplastic tissues.
