Objective: Determination of psychological problems will shed light on the terms of solution and provide support to patients about these problems will ensure the patients' coherence to the treatment and will enhance the benefits they receive from treatment. In this study, we aimed to determine these psychosocial problems and the interactions with each other in colon cancer patients.

Methods: In this study, 105 patients with colorectal cancer were included.

Objectives: To investigate the situations in which ureteral double-J stent should be used after retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS).

Patients And Methods: Patients with no ureteral double-J stent after RIRS constituted Group 1, and those with double- J stent after RIRS constituted Group 2. Patients' age and gender, renal stone characteristics (location and dimension), stone-free status, VAS score 8 hours after surgery, post-procedural renal colic attacks, length of hospitalization, requirement for re-hospitalization, time to rehospitalization and secondary procedure requirements were analyzed.

Can diffusion weighted MRI differentiate between inflammatory-infectious and malignant pleural effusions?

Aim: To assess exudative pleural effusions with diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DW-MRI) in order to determine non-invasive differentiation criteria for inflammatory-infectious and malignant effusions.

Materials And Methods: Thirty-two patients with pleural effusions underwent DW-MRI with 4 different b values (10, 500, 750 and 1000 s/mm2). ADC maps were generated automatically.

Adjuvant chemotherapy and prognostic factors in stage II colon cancer--Izmir Oncology Group Study.

Background: Although adjuvant chemotherapy is a standard treatment in stage III colon cancer, its benefit is not as clear for stage II patients. In this retrospective analysis, we aimed to evaluate the survival of patients with low-risk stage II colon cancer, the efficacy of adjuvant chemotherapy in high-risk stage II colon cancer patients, and prognostic factors in stage II disease.

Background/aim: To investigate the relative frequency of biopsied nonneoplastic oral mucosal lesions in Ankara, Turkey.

Materials And Methods: Biopsy records of a single center from 2000-2012 were retrospectively collected. Diagnosis was recorded and evaluated with respect to patient demographics (age, sex) and location of the lesion.

Efficacy of a real time optoelectronic device (TruScreen™) in detecting cervical intraepithelial pathologies: a prospective observational study.

Objective: To assess the effect of TruScreen™ (an objective optoelectronic cervical screening device) in improving the sensitivity of cervical screening programs either alone or in combination with Papanicolaou (PAP) smear or human papilloma virus (HPV) DNA screening.

Material And Methods: Our study was performed in 285 patients with abnormal Pap test results. TruScreen™ and HPV screening methods were performed in all participants.

Objective: The aim of this experimental study was to evaluate and compare the chondroprotective efficacy of intra-articular hyaluronic acid, tenoxicam and vitamin E in osteoarthritis.

Methods: An osteoarthritis model was created by anterior cruciate ligament transection and medial menisectomy in knees of 28 rats. The rats were randomized into four groups; first group served as a control group and received intra-articular injections of saline solution, intra-articular HA, intra-articular tenoxicam and intra-articular Vit E were applied to the treatment groups.

Prognostic value of mesothelin expression in patients with triple negative and HER2-positive breast cancers.

Purpose: Mesothelin is a cell surface glycoprotein that is overexpressed in various malignancies. Recent studies have revealed that mesothelin plays an oncogenic role in tumor growth and drug resistance through the Wnt/NF-κB/PI3K/Akt signaling pathways. Herein, the expression of mesothelin in HER2-positive and triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) has been correlated with prognosis.

The laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) is one of the most common malignant tumors occurring in the head and neck. Tumor necrosis factor related apoptosis induce ligand (TRAIL) and TRAIL-receptors (DR4, DR5, DcR1, DcR2) are known as important members of TRAIL-mediated biochemical signaling pathway. Associations between polymorphisms in these genes and clinicopathological characteristics of human laryngeal carcinoma are not well defined.

Depression, anxiety and sexual satisfaction in breast cancer patients and their partners-Izmir oncology group study.

Background: We aimed to investigate anxiety, depression and sexual satisfaction levels and the effects of depression and anxiety upon the sexual satisfaction of Turkish breast cancer patients and their partners.

Materials And Methods: Data were collected from one hundred breast cancer patients and their partners, using three forms: one covering information about socio-demographic characteristics of the patients, the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADs) and the Golombok-Rust Inventory of Sexual Satisfaction (GRISS).

Results: The frequencies, avoidance and touch subscores were statistically significantly high in the patients.

Objective: Preterm birth (PTB) is the major obstetric problem in developed countries, accounting for the majority of neonatal mortality and morbidity. Granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) is a hematopoietic cytokine that mediates the increase in leukocytes in pregnancy and may play a role in placentation. We aimed to investigate the differences of serum G-CSF levels between subsequent spontaneous PTB and term-delivered healthy pregnant women.

Vasculitis and long standing ankylosing spondylitis in a patient with familial Mediterranean fever.

Coexistence of familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) and other inflammatory disorders has been frequently reported, but no specific underlying factor has been identified. We report a patient with FMF who is presented with long-standing ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and cutaneous leukocytoklastic vasculitis (LV) of the lower limbs. It is the first report on combination of FMF with AS and LV.

Alterations in pituitary gland volume in polycystic ovary syndrome: a structural magnetic resonance imaging study.

The purpose of this prospectively designed cross-sectional observational study was to evaluate the effect of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) on pituitary gland volume (PGV) under the hypothesis that endocrinologic changes may lead to morphologic changes of the pituitary gland. Twenty-six PCOS patients and 31 control subjects underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the pituitary. Informed consent was obtained from all subjects.

The effect of postoperative positive end-expiratory pressure on postoperative bleeding after off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting.

Introduction: To compare postoperative prophylactic use of two positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) levels in order to prevent postoperative bleeding in patients undergoing off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) surgery.

Material And Methods: Sixty patients undergoing an elective off-pump CABG operation were included in this prospective, nonrandomized clinical trial. Patients were divided into two groups as receiving either 5 cm H2O (group 1) or 8 cm H2O PEEP (group 2) after the operation until being extubated.

Background: The role of second-line therapy in metastatic pancreatic cancer is not clear. In this study, we aimed to explore the second-line efficiency of capecitabine and oxaliplatin (XELOX) in patients with advanced pancreatic cancer who have received gemcitabine-based first-line therapy.

Materials And Methods: We retrospectively evaluated 47 patients with locally advanced or metastatic pancreatic cancer previously treated with gemcitabine-based first-line regimens.

Background: The purpose of this study was to establish a fetal birth weight curve for gestational age for patients who presented to our tertiary referral hospital. The curve can be used for epidemiological analysis and also to develop Turkey's first national nomogram.

Methods: A total of 68,255 live singleton pregnancies delivered during the study period in a tertiary referral hospital were initially reviewed in this study.

Protective effects of citicoline on TNBS-induced experimental colitis in rats.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of citicoline on the development of colitis and antioxidant parameters in rats subjected to tribenzene sulfonic acid (TNBS)-induced colitis. Twenty four Wistar Albino female rats were divided into four subgroups (n=6) (control, colitis control, colitis + 50 mg/kg citicoline, colitis + 250 mg/kg citicoline). Colitis was induced using an enema of TNBS and ethanol; following which citicoline was administrated for 3 days and effects of citicoline was subsequently evaluated.

Effect of luteal phase support with vaginal progesterone in intrauterine insemination cycles with regard to follicular response: a prospective randomized study.

Objective: To investigate the effect of luteal phase support with vaginal progesterone on pregnancy rates of the gonadotropin-stimulated intrauterine insemination (IUI) cycles in patients with unexplained infertility with regard tofollicular growth.

Study Design: A total of 149 patients with unexplained infertility who underwent 166 recombinant follicle stimulated hormone--stimulated IUI cycles were prospectively randomized into 2 groups for luteal phase support. The study group (n = 71) received vaginal progesterone gel supplementation, and the control group (n = 78) received no drug for luteal support.

We aimed to investigate anxiety, depression and sexual satisfaction levels of testicular cancer survivors (TCSs) and compare the scores with healthy men's. The Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), Golombok-Rust Inventory of Sexual Satisfaction (GRISS) and European Organization for Research on Treatment of Cancer Questionnaires Quality of Life-C30 were used. Forty-one TCSs and thirty-eight healthy men were participated in this study.
