Juvenile hyaline fibromatosis (JHF) is a rare, autosomally-recessive disease characterized by papulonodular skin lesions, soft tissue masses, joint contractures, gingival hypertrophy and osteolytic bone lesions. Its onset is in infancy or early childhood. The most commonly affected sites are the nose, chin, ears, scalp, back and knees.

Twenty pregnant and 20 nonpregnant Wistar albino rats were studied at 19 to 20 days' gestation (term, 22 days). A total of 40 myometrial strips were obtained from pregnant and nonpregnant rats, and each of these was randomly assigned to 1 of 4 groups (n=10, each group).

The symptoms of raised intracranial pressure or consciousness alteration are usually related to acute hemorrhage. A previously healthy four-year-old girl was admitted with sudden loss of consciousness, vomiting and clonic seizures.

Today, free or local flaps based on the perforating arteries of the gluteal region are among the most commonly used procedures for the management of lumbosacral defects and autologous breast reconstruction. An anatomic study was carried out to investigate localization, dimension, and distribution of the perforator arteries in 16 gluteal regions of 8 formol-fixed cadavers.

Injury may cause laceration of the vessel with acute life threatening retroperitoneal haemorrhage, formation of pseudoaneurysms or arteriovenous fistulae in the late phase. It is important for surgeons to be aware of these potentially fatal complications.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAcute renal failure is a very rare complication seen during the course of non- fulminant hepatitis A. Several mechanisms have been postulated in the pathogenesis of renal failure. Firstly, there is insufficiency of renal blood flow due to developing endotoxemia or cryoglobulinemia, secondly mesangial proliferative glomerulonephritis or interstitial nephritis occurs due to immune complexes and finally there is acute tubular necrosis caused by the direct cytopathic effect of the virus or due to immune complexes.

Discharge commonly resolves spontaneously, and ultrasonography is a useful diagnostic technique to detect the cause of discharge. We report a 28-month-old boy who presented with unilateral bloody nipple discharge for one month without signs of infection or mass.

It is usually diagnosed at advanced stages of the disease and presents a grave prognosis. Since the fatal outcome shows a rapid course within months of diagnosis, prompt gastroduodenal endoscopic examination following early clinical suspicion is mandatory.

Methods: Following delivery of the infant and placenta, a small segment of myometrium was excised from the upper incisional surface of the lower uterine segment and 20 strips, randomly assigned into two groups (n = 10), were obtained from 20 non-laboring term parturients. The study protocol consisted of a 60-min period of spontaneous contractions, control recording with oxytocin 2 x 10(9) m (10-min period), washout interval of 10 min, volatile administration (three times per 15-min period) of 0.
Background: Primary sarcomas of the vulva are rare tumors that account for 1.8-3% of all vulvar malignancies. Malignant fibrous histiocytoma occurs infrequently on the vulva but nonetheless is the second most frequent sarcoma of this region.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the hematologic effectsof the anesthetics isoflurane, sevoflurane, and desflurane on hemoglobin (Hb), hematocrit (Hct), platelet count, activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT), prothrombin time (PT), international normalized ratio (INR), and platelet aggregation after minor surgery.
Background: Numerous approaches and techniques have been described to achieve a desired result in tip surgery, but there are few studies that define or analyze the changes that occur after surgery. Therefore, the authors planned a study to document changes in nasal tip projection, crural and lobular lengths of the columella, columellar length, and proportional relationships of tip projection and columella with dorsal length.
Methods: Analysis was based on data collected from preoperative and 1-year postoperative lateral views of 18 patients who were randomly chosen.
Juvenile hyaline fibromatosis ( JHF ) is a rare autosomal recessive disease characterized by papulonodular skin lesions, gingival hyperplasia, joint contractures, and bone lesions. The skin lesions may consist of multiple large tumors, commonly on the scalp and around the neck, and small pearly, pink papules and plaques on the trunk, chin, ears, and around the nostrils. Here, we report a 2-year-old boy with characteristic stiffness of the knees and elbows and pink confluent papules on the paranasal folds, and periauricular and perianal regions.

It is mainly seen in either HIV-infected or malnourished patients suffering from a depression in immunity. We presented a chronic alcoholic, HIV negative male patient with noduloulcerative lesions diagnosed as lues maligna based on his skin eruptions, results of serologic tests, and, histopathologic findings.

Congenital synostosis of the mandible and maxilla is even less common than synechiae, with only 25 cases reported in the literature. Most of them presented as an incomplete, unilateral fusion.

Background: The aim of this study was to investigate the recovery properties of desflurane and sevoflurane in patients undergoing elective surgery, according to the gender differences.
Methods: In the study, 160 ASA class I-II patients aged between 20 and 60 years were included. The patients were assigned into two groups according to their gender, and these groups were randomly divided into two groups according to a selected volatile anaesthetic agent.
The large myelomeningocele defects that cannot be closed reliably by simple skin undermining require a close cooperation between the neurosurgeon and the plastic surgeon. In this study, a 3-year review was undertaken of nine consecutive patients with a myelomeningocele defect treated in our hospital. The aim of the study was to analyze the size, location of myelomeningocele defects, features of the surrounding tissue, and type and results of the reconstruction method for skin closure.

This article describes the authors' experience with the extended vertical trapezius myocutaneous flap for head and neck complicated soft-tissue defects in nine patients ranging in age from 17 to 72 years. The causes of the defects were squamous cell carcinoma of the external ear (n = 2), lip (n = 2), larynx (n = 1), and oral cavity floor (n = 1); congenital hemifacial atrophy-temporomandibular joint ankylosis (n = 1); synovial sarcoma at the mandibular ramus (n = 1); and malignant fibrous histiocytoma at the posterior cranial fossa (n = 1).
