A boron-dipyrromethene (BODIPY)-based fluorescent probe with a phosgene-specific reactive motif shows remarkable selectivity toward phosgene, in the presence of which the nonfluorescent dye rapidly transforms into a new structure and induces a fluorescent response clearly observable to the naked eye under ultraviolet light. Given that dynamic, a prototypical handheld phosgene detector with a promising sensing capability that expedites the detection of gaseous phosgene without sophisticated instrumentation was developed. The proposed method using the handheld detector involves a rapid response period suitable for issuing early warnings during emergency situations.

Purpose: To evaluate a simpler approach of the medial transposition of split lateral rectus technique in patients with complete third nerve palsy.

Methods: All eyes with complet third nerve palsy were followed in our Strabismus Department between 2014 and 2016. All patients had complete oculamotor nerve palsy.

Background/aim: Isotretinoin, the drug of choice for severe acne, might be associated with a decrease in insulin sensitivity. Adiponectin is an adipose tissue-derived protein that increases insulin sensitivity. In this study, we aimed to investigate adiponectin levels in postadolescent severe acne and the effect of isotretinoin on adiponectin levels.

This paper represents an international collaboration of paediatric endocrine and other societies (listed in the Appendix) under the International Consortium of Paediatric Endocrinology (ICPE) aiming to improve worldwide care of adolescent girls with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)1. The manuscript examines pathophysiology and guidelines for the diagnosis and management of PCOS during adolescence. The complex pathophysiology of PCOS involves the interaction of genetic and epigenetic changes, primary ovarian abnormalities, neuroendocrine alterations, and endocrine and metabolic modifiers such as anti-Müllerian hormone, hyperinsulinemia, insulin resistance, adiposity, and adiponectin levels.

Objective: Obesity is one of today's most important public health problems. It is suggested that overeating and substance addiction show similarities, and addiction to food may be an important factor in the obesity epidemic. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of food addiction among schizophrenic patients and to examine the relationship between food addiction and anthropometric measurements and dietary nutrient intake.

Revealing whether dislocations accelerate oxygen ion transport is important for providing abilities in tuning the ionic conductivity of ceramic materials. In this study, we report how dislocations affect oxygen ion diffusion in Sr-doped LaMnO (LSM), a model perovskite oxide that serves in energy conversion technologies. LSM epitaxial thin films with thicknesses ranging from 10 nm to more than 100 nm were prepared by pulsed laser deposition on single-crystal LaAlO and SrTiO substrates.

CO splitting via thermo-chemical or reactive redox has emerged as a novel and promising carbon-neutral energy solution. Its performance depends critically on the properties of the oxygen carriers (OC). Ceria is recognized as one of the most promising OC candidates, because of its fast chemistry, high ionic diffusivity, and large oxygen storage capacity.

Introduction: Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is the most common malignancy of the thyroid gland and although PTC has excellent prognosis, central lymph node (CLN) metastases are not uncommon. Studies have shown that CLN metastases are associated with an increased recurrence rate. The necessity for prophylactic CLN dissection (pCCND) in clinical lymph node negative (cN0) patients remains controversial.

Objective: Thyroidectomy is a very common surgical procedure. Regardless of surgeon experience, incidental parathyroidectomy is a complication of thyroidectomy. The aim of this study was to identify the clinical course of incidental parathyroidectomies after thyroidectomy.

Foreign body reaction is a tissue response against implanted materials. We described for the first time the eosinophilic peritonitis and foreign body giant cell reaction to dialysis catheter in a nonatopic child on continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis. We found tenderness, redness, and swelling without purulent discharge around the peritoneal catheter; increased eosinophil count in cloudy dialysis fluid; and blood and hyperechoic granulomatous formation appearance surrounding the peritoneal catheter on ultrasonography and foreign body giant cell reaction to dialysis catheter in pathologic examination of granulomatous lesionin in our patient.

Background And Objective: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) has been reported to be associated with the development of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). The objective of this meta-analysis is to assess the relationship between PCOS and OSA.

Methods: A literature search was conducted to identify studies linking PCOS with the risk of OSA.

Background: Ranson's criteria are widely used to evaluate severity of acute pancreatitis (AP). Red blood cell distribution width (RDW) has been demonstrated to be useful marker to predict mortality in these patients. The aim of the present study was to investigate correlation between Ranson score and RDW in patients with AP.

Purpose: To detect differences in global brain volumes and identify relations between brain volume and appetite-related hormones in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) compared to body mass index-matched controls.

Methods: Forty subjects participated in this study. Cranial magnetic resonance imaging and measurements of fasting ghrelin, leptin and glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1), as well as GLP-1 levels during mixed-meal tolerance test (MTT), were performed.

Background: The aim of this study was to determine the impacts of different administration modes on sensitivity and specificity of Edinburgh Claudication Questionnaire (ECQ) in estimation of Ankle Brachial Index (ABI) detecting lower extremity arterial disease (LEAD).

Methods: Eligible respondents aged fifty years or older underwent first a self-administered (SA-) ECQ, and then an interviewer-administered (IA-) ECQ. Interviewing included additional guidance on symptoms relevant to claudication.

We present a multi-scale approach to predict equilibrium defect concentrations across oxide/oxide hetero-interfaces. There are three factors that need to be taken into account simultaneously for computing defect redistribution around the hetero-interfaces: the variation of local bonding environment at the interface as epitomized in defect segregation energies, the band offset at the interface, and the equilibration of the chemical potentials of species and electrons via ionic and electronic drift-diffusion fluxes. By including these three factors from the level of first principles calculation, we build a continuum model for defect redistribution by concurrent solution of Poisson's equation for the electrostatic potential and the steady-state equilibrium drift-diffusion equation for each defect.
