Life-course persistent antisocial behavior is 10 to 14 times more prevalent in males and it has been suggested that testosterone levels could account for this gender bias. Preliminary studies with measures of fetal testosterone find inconsistent associations with antisocial behavior, especially studies that use the 2D:4D ratio as a proxy for fetal testosterone. However, circulating testosterone consistently shows positive associations with antisocial behaviors throughout childhood, adolescence, and adulthood, particularly in males.

The transforming growth factor β (TGF-β) is thought to have important roles in several stages of folliculogenesis. Vitamin D is effective in cell proliferation, differentition and on estrogen biosynthesis. The aim of the present study was to determine the respective role of 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 on expression of TGF-β1 in developing rat ovaries.

Rheumatoid factor (RF) is a widely used auto antibody in diagnosis of the RA and found positive in 50-80 % of the patients but with a lower specificity. On the other hand, anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide (anti-CCP) is the latest serological marker with a specificity around 98 %.

Since the parasympathetic system in children is not fully developed, electrical transmission of the heart is not stable. Neostigmine is used in order to reverse neuromuscular block but it may also lead to prolongation of Q-Tc interval.

Radiologically, the pineal gland volume is clinically important because it is usually difficult to distinguish small pineal tumors via magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Although many studies have estimated the pineal gland volume using different techniques, to the best of our knowledge, there has so far been no stereological work done on this subject.

We here examined changes in neuropeptides, specifically Substance P (SP), calcitonin-gene related peptide (CGRP) and vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) in patients with chronic gastritis or ulcer. Furthermore changes in neprilysin levels, which hydrolyse these neuropeptides, were determined.

Firstly, would the carcinogenesis be accompanied by oxidative stress as signalled by superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, malondialdehyde and total nitrate? Secondly, would treating the rats additionally with a blocker of voltage-gated sodium channel (VGSC) activity, shown previously to promote BCa progression, affect the oxidative responses? The DMBA-induced increases in the antioxidant systems were completely blocked by the VGSC inhibitor RS100642, which also significantly prolonged the lifespan.

Although the evidence of inflammation in colonic and lung tissue has been documented, the possible effect of oxidative stress in lung tissue has not been evaluated to date. We sought to assess the effects of oxidant/antioxidants on lung tissue in a model of experimental colitis.

Background: The aim of this study was to examine knowledge about cancer and early diagnosis of cancer among nurses.
Materials And Method: This descriptive study was carried out at a University Faculty of Medicine Hospital in Turkey. Study between April and June, 2011, with 325 volunteer nurses.
Objective: The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between insight dimensions and clinical features in bipolar disorder.
Method: One hundred and four inpatients with bipolar disorder( manic or mixed episodes) diagnosed according to DSM-IV criteria participated in the study. Patients were evaluated both during an acute episode and in remission, prior their discharge from the hospital by the Young Mania Rating Scale (YMRS), Montgomery-Asberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS), Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS), The Scale of Unawareness of Mental Disorders (SUMD), and a questionnaire regarding demographic and clinical characteristics.
Pulmonary hamartoma is a benign lung neoplasm and it comprises 6% of solitary pulmonary nodules. Two clinical types have been defined according to its location: intraparenchymal (90%) and endobronchial (10%). We report on a case of endobronchial hamartoma resected with electrocautery by a flexible bronchoscope (FB).

It has diuretic, natriuretic and vasodilator effects. In cirrhosis, a hyperdynamic circulation occurs because of hemodynamic and hemostatic alterations.

Objectives: The aim of the present study was to assess the prevalence of Herpes Simplex virus, Epstein Barr virus and Human Papilloma virus -16 in oral lichen planus cases and to evaluate whether any clinical variant, histopathological or demographic feature correlates with these viruses.
Study Design: The study was conducted on 65 cases. Viruses were detected immunohistochemically.
The main objective of this retrospective study is to evaluate the question of whether it is necessary to perform surgery for patients who develop an acute abdomen after methotrexate administration in cases of tubal ectopic pregnancy. A total of 26 women with tubal ectopic pregnancy who required emergency surgical evaluation after a single dose of methotrexate treatment were included. The surgical findings were tubal abortion (10 cases, 38.

We aimed to determine the prevalence of elevated ATLs and the association of elevated ATLs with the metabolic syndrome (MetS) in a northern province of Turkey.
Materials And Methods: Elevated ATLs were evaluated among 1,095 individuals of the Tokat Prevalence Study which have been described in detail elsewhere.
Background: There are still limited data on the outcomes of regenerative periodontal surgery using a combination of an enamel matrix protein derivative (EMD) and autogenous bone (AB).
Aim: To evaluate the healing of deep intrabony defects treated with either a combination EMD+AB or EMD alone.
Materials And Methods: Forty patients with advanced chronic periodontitis, with one deep intrabony defect, were randomly treated with either EMD+AB (test) or EMD (control).
Aim: To identify important information on the state of academic nursing and the characteristics of academic nursing publications in Turkey.
Methods: The study consists of retrospective bibliometric research. The selected sample of the research consisted of six Turkish nursing journals published between 1994-2003 from a total population of ten journals.
Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate whether applying cut-off values of 20mm, 30mm and 40mm for tumor size have prognostic value in terms of survival or not.
Material And Methods: Medical records of 193 patients with FIGO stage IB cervical cancer (IB1: 173, IB2: 20) undergoing radical hysterectomy were evaluated. Tumor size was defined as the greatest tumor diameter determined by rectovaginal examination under general anesthesia.
Ulcerative colitis (UC) is an inflammatory disease of the colonic mucosa. The presence of gene responsible for FMF, MEFV, which frequently causes inflammation, may aggravate the clinical course of UC. We aimed to determine the prevalence of MEFV mutations in UC patients and its impact on the clinical course.

Objective: The aim of the study is to evaluate and compare the efficacy of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT), radical hysterectomy (RH) and radiotherapy (RT) in the treatment of stage IB2 cervical cancer.
Material And Methods: Medical records of 86 patients with stage IB2 cervical cancer between 1993 and 2006 were evaluated. Patients who underwent type III RH ± bilateral salphingo-oophorectomy and para-aortic and pelvic lymphadenectomy constituted the RH group (n=18).
We aimed to assess the prevalence of CKD in the Black Sea Region, Turkey, and to evaluate any relationship between age, gender, diabetes, obesity, hypertension, and CKD. This study was conducted in 70 different areas in Tokat Province in the Black Sea Region, in the northern part of Turkey. The estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) was calculated from the serum creatinine using MDRD formulas.

The aim of the present study was to investigate the effectiveness of PRP and bovine derived xenograft (BDX) combination in the treatment of deep intrabony defects with an emphasis on the evaluation of early wound healing. A total of 85 intrabony defects with an intrabony component of > or =3 mm were selected in 20 advanced chronic periodontitis patients.
