Lymphoid tissue-resident commensal bacteria (LRC), a subtype of gut microbiota essential for inflammation-associated carcinogenesis, predominantly attribute to colorectal cancer(CRC), whereas its role was largely unknown. Herein, we found (), the main LRC embedded in Peyer's patches, was abundantly enriched in colitis, adenoma, and stage-dependently observed in CRC tissues. Interestingly, alone can not affect intestinal homeostasis, while during colitis, significantly translocated from Peyer's patches to colon, remarkably attenuated immune response abilities of B cells, T cells, and DC cells in PPs, consequently impeded IgA+ B cells homing.

Article Synopsis
  • Octopus sinensis is a significant species in aquaculture, particularly in southern China, and has a well-documented immune system that helps resist pathogens.
  • Five TRAF genes (OsTRAF2 to OsTRAF7) were identified, each varying in size and showing different chromosome locations, indicating their role in the innate immune response.
  • Analysis revealed that these genes are highly expressed in specific organs and their expression increases in response to immune challenges, suggesting they are vital for immune function in this species.

Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are a class of conserved pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) that are crucial for initiating the innate immune response and aiding in the clearance of pathogenic organisms. Many studies have identified TLR4 as a distinctive member of the TLR family, capable of activating both the Myeloid differentiation factor 88-dependent signaling pathway (MyD88-dependent) and the TIR-domain-containing adaptor inducing IFN-β dependent signaling pathway (TRIF-dependent). Nevertheless, the role of TLR4 in Cephalopoda is still largely unexplored.

Although neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) has become the standard treatment option for muscle invasive bladder carcinoma (MIBC), its application is still limited because of the lack of biomarkers for NAC prediction. We conducted a territory multicenter real-world study to summarize NAC practice in China and its associated clinicopathologic variables with NAC response. Then, we developed and validated a robust gene-based signature for accurate NAC prediction using weighted correlation network analysis (WGCNA), the least absolute shrinkage and selector operation (LASSO) algorithm, a multivariable binary logistic regression model, and immunohistochemistry (IHC).

Article Synopsis
  • - This study compares the effectiveness of three treatments for muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC): neoadjuvant immunotherapy (tislelizumab), neoadjuvant chemotherapy (gemcitabine and cisplatin), and a combination of both.
  • - It finds that the neoadjuvant combination therapy has the best outcomes in terms of complete response rates and reducing the cancer stage, while also creating a model to predict which patients will benefit the most from this treatment.
  • - Additionally, it suggests that patients who fully respond to the treatments may be candidates for bladder preservation therapy, indicating a potential shift in how MIBC is treated.

Article Synopsis
  • A study examined care abandonment rates for retinoblastoma (RB) across 11 centers in 10 countries, finding significant geographical differences.
  • Key risk factors for abandoning care included living in high-risk countries (like Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Peru), being female, and having advanced disease.
  • The study concluded that enucleation as a primary treatment did not increase the risk of care abandonment, and more research is needed to understand cultural factors that influence patient retention.

Background/objectives: Retinoblastoma is a common childhood intraocular malignancy, the bilateral form of which most commonly results from a de novo germline pathogenic variant in the RB1 gene. Both advanced maternal age and decreasing birth order are known to increase the risk of de novo germline pathogenic variants, while the influence of national wealth is understudied. This cohort study aimed to retrospectively observe whether these factors influence the ratio of bilateral retinoblastoma cases compared to unilateral retinoblastoma, thereby inferring an influence on the development of de novo germline pathogenic variants in RB1.

The protective effects of breastfeeding on various childhood malignancies have been established but an association has not yet been determined for retinoblastoma (RB). We aimed to further investigate the role of breastfeeding in the severity of nonhereditary RB development, assessing relationship to (1) age at diagnosis, (2) ocular prognosis, measured by International Intraocular RB Classification (IIRC) or Intraocular Classification of RB (ICRB) group and success of eye salvage, and (3) extraocular involvement. Analyses were performed on a global dataset subgroup of 344 RB patients whose legal guardian(s) consented to answer a neonatal questionnaire.

Background: Intravenous misplacement of a nephrostomy tube is a rare complication of percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) or percutaneous nephrostomy. The mechanism of misplacement of a nephrostomy tube into the vascular system is seldom investigated. One type of the possible mechanism is that the puncture needle penetrates a major intrarenal tributary of the renal vein and enters the collecting system.
