Pinellia ternata, a widely distributed species in China, has been used as a herbal medicine for centuries, with the effects of drying dampness and resolving phlegm. However, its complex ploidy and lack of whole-genome map limit in-depth research on molecular-assisted breeding and multi-omics. In this study, flow cytometry was employed to evaluate the genome sizes of 144 P.

People generate evaluations of different attitude objects based on their goals and aspects of the social context. Prior research suggests that people can shift between at least three types of evaluations to judge whether something is good or bad: (how costly or beneficial it is), (whether it is aligned with moral norms), and (whether it feels good; Van Bavel et al., 2012).

Introduction: The bar-headed goose is a typical high-altitude bird that primarily inhabits alpine lakes and wetlands in Central Asia, with a remarkable ability to adapt to high elevations. Previous studies have shown that they can be infected with parasites such as Cryptosporidium spp. At present, there were few reports on its infection with the virus.

Background: Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus (FCB) is frequently adulterated with its closely related species due to personal or non-man made factors, leading to alterations in the composition of its constituents and compromising the efficacy of its products.

Methods: The specific single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were screened by comparing candidate barcodes of Fritillaria and verified by amplification and sequencing. Herb molecular quantification (Herb-Q) was established by detecting specific SNPs, and the methodological validation was performed.

Despite recent advances in systemic therapy for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the prognosis of hepatitis B virus (HBV)-induced HCC patients remains poor. By screening a sgRNA library targeting human deubiquitinases, we find that ubiquitin-specific peptidase 26 (USP26) deficiency impairs HBV-positive HCC cell proliferation. Genetically engineered murine models with Usp26 knockout confirm that Usp26 drives HCC tumorigenesis.

Alkali metals (Li, Na, and K) are deemed as the ideal anode materials for next-generation high-energy-density batteries because of their high theoretical specific capacity and low redox potentials. However, alkali metal anodes (AMAs) still face some challenges hindering their further applications, including uncontrollable dendrite growth and unstable solid electrolyte interphase during cycling, resulting in low Coulombic efficiency and inferior cycling performance. In this regard, designing 3D current collectors as hosts for AMAs is one of the most effective ways to address the above-mentioned problems, because their sufficient space could accommodate AMAs' volume expansion, and their high specific surface area could lower the local current density, leading to the uniform deposition of alkali metals.

Variations in herb dosage due to species adulteration and dosing inaccuracies can substantially affect clinical safety and efficacy. Accurate species quantification remains challenging, as current methods often yield inconsistent results. This study introduces a novel pyrosequencing-based technique, termed herb molecular quantification (Herb-Q), designed to precisely quantify herbal products.

  • The development of tumor vaccines is hindered by the difficulty in obtaining specific tumor antigens, but multivalent antigens are thought to enhance effectiveness.
  • A new multivalent mRNA vaccine (MmRV) containing three neoantigens for melanoma was created and combined with mannosylated chitosan-modified ethosomes for better transcutaneous immunization (TCI).
  • Results show that TCI patches with MmRV boost immune responses, inhibit tumor growth, and are safe for use without damaging healthy tissues, while the combination with a PDL1 blocker enhances antitumor effects significantly.

Tumor recurrence after chemoradiotherapy is challenging to overcome, and approaches to predict the recurrence remain elusive. Here, human cervical cancer tissues before and after concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) analyzed by single-cell RNA sequencing reveal that CCRT specifically promotes CD8 T cell senescence, driven by atypical chemokine receptor 2 (ACKR2) CCRT-resistant tumor cells. Mechanistically, ACKR2 expression is increased in response to CCRT and is also upregulated through the ligation of CC chemokines that are produced by activated myeloid and T cells.

The interaction network and pathway map uncover the potential crosstalk between sugar and hormone metabolisms as a possible reason for leaf senescence in P. ternata. Pinellia ternata, an environmentally sensitive medicinal plant, undergoes leaf senescence twice a year, affecting its development and yield.

CD146, also known as melanoma cell adhesion molecule (MCAM), is overexpressed in various cancer patients, making it a valuable predictor for early diagnosis. In this work, an immune sandwich electrochemical biosensor is proposed for sensitive and non-invasive quantitative detection of CD146 in serum. Zirconium-based MOF (UIO-66) was modified by simultaneous copper atom doping, in situ growth carbon-based support and physical embedding of platinum nanoparticles (PtNPs).

  • Effective global behavior change is crucial for reducing climate change, but it's unclear which strategies motivate people to shift their beliefs and actions.
  • A study tested 11 interventions on nearly 60,000 participants across 63 countries, finding small effectiveness primarily among non-skeptics and varied results across different outcomes.
  • Key results showed that reducing psychological distance strengthened beliefs, writing a letter to a future generation increased policy support, and inducing negative emotions encouraged information sharing, but no strategy successfully boosted tree-planting efforts.

Background: Child flourishing includes healthy social and emotional development and an open, engaged approach to learning. However, there remains a significant knowledge gap concerning a minority of children with ADHD who may demonstrate flourishing in one or more areas of functioning. This study investigated the association between positive childhood experiences (PCEs) and flourishing among children with ADHD.

Brain-like artificial intelligence (AI) will become the main form and important platform in future computing. It will play an important and unique role in simulating brain functions, efficiently implementing AI algorithms, and improving computing power. Developing artificial neurons that can send facilitation/depression signals to artificial synapses, sense, and process temperature information is of great significance for achieving more efficient and compact brain-like computing systems.

  • Advancements in genomics have sped up research on medicinal plants, leading to the "Project of 1K Medicinal Plant Genome," which aims to decode their genetic make-up, though challenges arise due to polyploidy and genomic heterozygosity.
  • As of September 2022, whole genomes of 123 medicinal plants have been sequenced, mainly diploid species, with a focus on the Poaceae family and a significant portion related to medicinal properties like tonifying and heat-cleaning effects.
  • The paper proposes a clear strategy for obtaining high-quality plant genomes and suggests establishing a research platform for model medicinal plants to enhance genomic studies in this field.

  • Salvia is an important plant used for medicine, food, and decoration, with major distribution centers in Central and Western Asia/Mediterranean, East Asia, and Central/South America.
  • The study analyzed the chloroplast genomes (CPs) of five Salvia species to investigate their genetic diversity and phylogeny, revealing links between genetic traits and geographic distribution.
  • Findings showed that Salvia species from the Central and Western Asia/Mediterranean had the most genetic variation, while those from Central and South America displayed less variation and fewer repeated sequences in their CPs.

By mimicking the behavior of the human brain, artificial neural systems offer the possibility to further improve computing efficiency and solve the von Neumann bottleneck. In particular, neural systems with perceptual capability expand the application field and lay a good foundation for the construction of perceptual storage and computational systems. However, research on neurons with perceptual functions is still relatively scarce, with most works focusing on optoelectronic synapses.
