The triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index is a simple and cost-effective way to assess insulin resistance, but its link to prediabetes and diabetes risk in the Chinese population was previously unclear.
A study analyzed data from over 179,500 adults who underwent health screening between 2010 and 2016, finding a significant positive correlation between the TyG index and the development of prediabetes/diabetes, with specific thresholds impacting risk levels.
Results indicated that keeping the TyG index below a threshold of 8.73 could help reduce the chances of developing prediabetes or diabetes, suggesting the importance of monitoring this index for prevention.
