Background: Gastric cancer remains a common malignancy with poor prognosis. While lactate metabolism is recognized as a significant factor in tumor progression, its potential as a predictive tool for treatment response remains unexplored. This study introduces a novel Lactate-Related Gene Signature (LRGS) designed to predict both survival outcomes and therapy responses in gastric cancer patients.

Modulating the endogenous stores of gastrointestinal hormones is considered a promising strategy to mimic gut endocrine function, improving metabolic dysfunction. Here, we exploit mouse and human knock-in and knockout intestinal organoids and show that agents used as commercial lipid excipients can activate nutrient-sensitive receptors on enteroendocrine cells (EECs) and, when formulated as lipid nanocarriers, can bestow biological effects through the release of GLP-1, GIP, and PYY from K and L cells. Studies in wild-type, dysglycemic, and gut knockout mice demonstrated that the effect exerted by lipid nanocarriers could be modulated by varying the excipients (e.

Diabetic foot ulcers are linked to a high disability rate, with no effective treatment currently available. Addressing infection, reducing oxidative stress, and safely managing chronic inflammation remain major challenges. In this study, a composite hydrogel dressing was developed using natural substances or clinically approved components (dopamine, D-alpha-tocopheryl polyethylene glycol succinate, and rhein).

Silicon dioxide nanoparticles (SiO NPs) are widely utilized in biomedicine due to their controllable size and biocompatibility. While previous studies have demonstrated that prenatal exposure to SiO NPs can traverse the placental barrier and induce neurotoxicity in offspring. However, their reproductive toxicity remains unclear.

Introduction: People who are overweight following bariatric surgery (BS) often need physical exercise to help with body function. However, it is not known which exercise interventions are more effective in improving physical function.

Methods: PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases were systematically searched for randomized controlled trials evaluating the effects of different exercise interventions on physical function in patients with excessive obesity following bariatric surgery.

The accumulation of lactate is a rising risk factor for patients after flap transplantation. Endothelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EndoMT) plays a critical role in skin fibrosis. Nevertheless, whether lactate overproduction directly contributes to flap necrosis and its mechanism remain unknown.

The exploration of optimizing cardiopulmonary function and athletic performance through high-intensity metabolic exercises (HIMEs) is paramount in sports science. Despite the acknowledged efficacy of HIMEs in enhancing cardiopulmonary endurance, the high metabolic stress imposed on the cardiopulmonary system, especially for amateurs, necessitates a scaled approach to training. : The aim of this study is to ascertain whether adjustments in the initiation posture and the adoption of an appropriate breathing strategy can effectively mitigate the cardiopulmonary stress induced by HIMEs without compromising training efficacy.

Article Synopsis
  • The popularity of running has sparked advancements in running shoe technology, particularly with designs featuring increased toe spring elevation, which may affect foot structures during running.
  • A study utilized finite element simulation to analyze foot-shoe interactions with two different toe spring heights (6.5 cm and 8 cm) and various ground contact angles (5°, 10°, and 15°).
  • Results showed that higher toe spring designs lead to lower stress on metatarsal bones and the big toe, while excessive ground contact angles could increase stress, particularly on the fifth metatarsal, suggesting that runners should avoid angles over 15° to prevent stress injuries.

Background: While airport screening measures for COVID-19 infected passengers at international airports worldwide have been greatly relaxed, observational studies evaluating fever screening alone at airports remain scarce. The purpose of this study is to retrospectively assess the effectiveness of fever screening at airports in preventing the influx of COVID-19 infected persons.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective epidemiological analysis of fever screening implemented at 9 airports in Okinawa Prefecture from May 2020 to March 2022.

Kidney Clear Cell Carcinoma (KIRC), the predominant form of kidney cancer, exhibits a diverse therapeutic response to Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors (ICIs), highlighting the need for predictive models of ICI efficacy. Our study has constructed a prognostic model based on 13 types of Programmed Cell Death (PCD), which are intertwined with tumor progression and the immune microenvironment. Validated by analyses of comprehensive datasets, this model identifies seven key PCD genes that delineate two subtypes with distinct immune profiles and sensitivities to anti-PD-1 therapy.

In recent years, the significant impact of lactate in the tumor microenvironment has been greatly documented. Acting not only as an energy substance in tumor metabolism, lactate is also an imperative signaling molecule. It plays key roles in metabolic remodeling, protein lactylation, immunosuppression, drug resistance, epigenetics and tumor metastasis, which has a tight relation with cancer patients' poor prognosis.

The purpose of the present study was to investigate the gelling properties and in vitro digestibility of myofibrillar protein (MP) gels under low-salt condition as mediated by different concentrations of thermo-reversible curdlan gels (TRC) or thermo-irreversible curdlan gels (TIRC). The results showed that the incorporation of TRC or TIRC obviously improved the gel strength and water holding capacity of MP gels (P < 0.05).

Background Context: There are many models of lumbar disc degeneration, but mechanical stress-induced lumbar disc degeneration is rare. Here we propose a mechanical stress-induced lumbar disc degeneration model to better understand the molecular mechanism of lumbar disc degeneration under stress stimulation.

Purpose: To design a new model of lumbar disc degeneration under mechanical stress.

Background: Type 2 diabetes is often linked with osteoporosis (T2DOP), a condition that accelerates bone degeneration and increases the risk of fractures. Unlike conventional menopausal osteoporosis, the diabetic milieu exacerbates the likelihood of fractures and osteonecrosis. In particular poliumoside (Pol), derived from Callicarpa kwangtungensis Chun, has shown promising anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory effects.

The ovary ages earlier than most other tissues, yet the underlying mechanisms remain elusive. Here a comprehensive analysis of transcriptomic landscapes in different organs in young and middle-aged mice revealed that the ovaries showed earlier expression of age-associated genes, identifying increased NADase CD38 expression and decreased NAD levels in the ovary of middle-aged mice. Bulk and single-cell RNA sequencing revealed that CD38 deletion mitigated ovarian aging, preserving fertility and follicle reserve in aged mice by countering age-related gene expression changes and intercellular communication alterations.

Background: Rumination has emerged as a significant factor contributing to personal growth following periods of stress or trauma. The present study aimed to investigate the relationship between trait rumination and post-stress growth (PSG) within the context of Chinese college students who encounter mild stressors in their daily lives. Moreover, we aim to evaluate the potential mediating roles played by both distress disclosure and perceived social support in this dynamic relationship.

Current treatments for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) treatment consist of anti-inflammatory products. In this study, we sought to induce the physiological secretion of glucagon-like peptide 2, a peptide with intestinal growth-promoting activity, via nanoparticles while simultaneously providing with immunomodulation by tailoring the nanoparticle surface. To this end, we developed hybrid lipid hyaluronate-KPV conjugated nanoparticles loaded with teduglutide for combination therapy in IBD.

Background: Studies have shown that supplementation with recombinant human GH (rh-GH) during ovarian stimulation (OS) may improve the ovarian response and clinical outcomes of IVF. However, it remains unclear whether GH is associated with the ploidy status of embryos, and therefore, is unable to explain the underlying reason for the effect of GH on IVF outcomes. This study aimed to investigate whether GH supplementation in women with advanced maternal age (AMA) during OS is related to an increased probability of obtaining euploid blastocysts.
