Article Synopsis
  • Super-resolution ultrasound (SRUS) can visualize microvascular structures smaller than the typical resolution limit by tracking microbubble contrast agents, but current phantoms used for testing have limitations.
  • This study introduces a new fabrication method for durable microvascular phantoms made from Polydimethylsiloxane that includes complex branching structures and optically validated dimensions down to 60 μm.
  • The results showed that the SRUS imaging had an average error of 15.61 μm, which improved significantly with more localized microbubbles, and highlighted the phantoms' long-term durability and low variance in properties for effective SRUS testing.

The discharge of wastewater into rivers can lead to resistome coalescence, thereby enhancing the spread risk of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) through mixing of exogenous wastewater resistome communities with indigenous riverine communities. At present, the understanding on the role of resistome community coalescence in the dissemination of ARGs is still very limited, and little is known about the process and its ecological implications. To bridge the gap, this study has conducted field-based surveys and microcosm experiments to deeply dissect the coalescence of resistome community in wastewater within river environment, utilizing genome-centric metagenomic analysis approach.

Heavy metals (HMs) in soils pose significant risks on ecosystem and human health. To design targeted regulatory measures for mitigating and controlling the risk, it is necessary to accurately identify the pollution sources and environmental risks of soil HMs, as well as to reveal the linkages between them. To date, yet systematic investigation aimed at deciphering the links between source apportionment of soil HMs and their associated environmental risks is still lacking.

Root-associated microbiota provide great fitness to hosts under environmental stress. However, the underlying microecological mechanisms controlling the interaction between heavy metal-stressed plants and the microbiota are poorly understood. In this study, we screened and isolated representative amplicon sequence variants (strain M4) from rhizosphere soil samples of Trifolium repens L.

A new andrastin-type meroterpenoid penimerodione A (), and three known analogues (-), were isolated from the culture of a marine-derived fungus HNNU w0032 by the guidance of MS/MS-based molecular networking. The planar structure of was established by extensive NMR spectroscopic and HRESIMS analyses, and the absolute configuration was elucidated by a single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Compound showed significant inhibitory effect on NO production in LPS-stimulated BV-2 macrophages with an IC value of 5.

The failure of endogenous repair is the main feature of neurological diseases that cannot recover the damaged tissue and the resulting dysfunction. Currently, the range of treatment options for neurological diseases is limited, and the approved drugs are used to treat neurological diseases, but the therapeutic effect is still not ideal. In recent years, different studies have revealed that neural stem cells (NSCs) have made exciting achievements in the treatment of neurological diseases.

Nine metabolites, including three undescribed alkaloids pyripyropenes VW (1-2), penicioxa A (4), two previously reported pyripyropene A (3), oxaline (5), three grisephenone-type xanthone derivatives (6-8), and a diphenyl ether derivative 4-chloro-7,4'-dihydroxy-5,2'-dimethoxy-2-methylformate-6'-methybenzophone (9), were isolated from cultures of the mangrove-derived fungus Penicillium robsamsonii HNNU0006. Their structures were determined by spectroscopic analysis, ECD calculations, together with DP4+ probability analysis. Furthermore, all the isolated compounds were tested for cytotoxicity and anti-phytopathogenic fungal activities.

P2X7 receptor (P2X7) is a non-selective and ATP-sensitive ligand-gated cation channel. Studies have confirmed that it is expressed in a variety of cells and correlates with their function, frequently in immune cells and tumor cells. We found increased expression of this receptor in many tumor cells, and it has a role in tumor survival and progression.

Cell transplantation has brought about a breakthrough in the treatment of nerve injuries, and the efficacy of cell transplantation compared to drug and surgical therapies is very exciting. In terms of transplantation targets, the classic cells include neural stem cells (NSCs) and Schwann cells, while a class of cells that can exist and renew throughout the life of the nervous system - olfactory ensheathing cells (OECs) - has recently been discovered in the olfactory system. OECs not only encircle the olfactory nerves but also act as macrophages and play an innate immune role.

TGF-β is thought to be involved in the physiological functions of early organ development and pathological changes in substantial organ fibrosis, while studies around adipose tissue function and systemic disorders of glucolipid metabolism are still scarce. In this investigation, two animal models, aP2-SREBP-1c mice and ob/ob mice, were used. TGF-β pathway showed up-regulated in the inguinal white adipose tissue (iWAT) of the two models.

Neurological diseases are destructive, mainly characterized by the failure of endogenous repair, the inability to recover tissue damage, resulting in the increasing loss of cognitive and physical function. Although some clinical drugs can alleviate the progression of these diseases, but they lack therapeutic effect in repairing tissue injury and rebuilding neurological function. More and more studies have shown that cell therapy has made good achievements in the application of nerve injury.

At present, timely and accurate diagnosis and effective treatment of Epstein- Barr Virus (EBV) infection-associated fever remain a difficult challenge. EBV encodes 44 mature microRNAs (miRNAs) that inhibit viral lysis, adjust inflammatory response, regulate cellular apoptosis, promote tumor genesis and metastasis, and regulate tumor cell metabolism. Herein, we have collected the specific expression data of EBV-miRNAs in EBV-related fevers, including infectious mononucleosis (IM), EBVassociated hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (EBV-HLH), chronic active EBV infection (CAEBV), and EBV-related tumors, and proposed the potential value of EBVmiRNAs as biomarkers to assist in the identification, diagnosis, and prognosis of EBVrelated fever, as well as therapeutic targets for drug development.

Skin aging caused by UV radiation is called photoaging is characterized by skin roughness and dryness accompanied by a significant reduction of dermal collagen. Rapamycin is a macrolide immunosuppressant which has been shown to exhibit "anti-aging" effects in cells and organisms, however, its roles in the skin photoaging remains unclear. Here, we investigate the role of rapamycin and HSP27, which we have previously identified as an inhibitor of UV-induced apoptosis and senescence in HaCat cells, in a UVA-induced photoaging model of primary human dermal fibroblasts (HDFs).

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is prevalent in East and Southeast Asia. In a previous study, Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-miR-BART22 induces tumor metastasis and stemness and is significantly involved in NPC progression. In the present study, we observed that miR-4721 is induced by EBV-miR-BART22 through phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K)/AKT/c-JUN/Sp1 signaling to promote its transcription.

We propose a synthetic strategy to synthesize cobalt nanoparticle cores encapsulated in tunable N-doped graphene shells on N-doped reduced graphene oxide as a highly efficient and stable pH-universal electrocatalyst. The superior performance is mainly attributed to the optimization of the electrocatalytic centre and the improvement of the electronic configuration.

BACKGROUND Owing to the increased incidence of photodermatosis caused by ultraviolet light in recent years, it is necessary to clarify the mechanisms potential photodamage to the skin and reveal possible therapeutic targets. Heat shock protein 27 (Hsp27) is well known for suppressing apoptosis. The aim of present study was to elucidate possible photoprotective mechanism between Hsp27 and p21 on ultraviolet B (UVB)-induced photodamage.
