Background: This study compares the surgical and long-term outcomes, including disease-free survival (DFS), overall survival (OS), and cancer-specific survival (CSS), between lobe-specific lymph node dissection (L-SND) and systematic lymph node dissection (SND) among patients with stage I non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Methods: In this retrospective study, 107 patients diagnosed with clinical stage I NSCLC undergoing video-assisted thoracic surgery lobectomy (exclusion of the right middle lobe) from January 2011 to December 2018 were enrolled. The patients were assigned to the L-SND ( = 28) and SND ( = 79) groups according to the procedure performed on them.

Melanoma shows a high possibility of mortality after it metastasizes because of its aggressive nature. Although there are several options for anti-melanoma therapy, this skin malignancy is resistant to some therapies. Chemotherapy, biochemotherapy, immunotherapy, and adoptive cell therapy have failed to exhibit a significant amelioration in overall survival.

Bulb-shaped field emission lamps (FELs) with a helical cathode filament were simulated and fabricated in this research. The light bulbs comprised a helical stainless steel filament cathode grown with carbon nano-coils (CNCs) and an Al anode deposited on the bottom hemisphere of a 60-mm-diameter glass bulb. White light was generated when the field-emitted electrons bombarded a layer of three-color phosphor coated on the anode.

Using a microarray technique, we found decorin to be underexpressed, but osteopontin (OPN) to be overexpressed, in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). This study aims to examine whether plasma decorin and OPN plus personal substances use (tobacco, alcohol and areca) can serve as suitable clinical markers to predict the presence of ESCC. In a subset of lung adenocarcinomas, the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) is activated by kinase domain mutations and/or gene amplification, but the interaction between the two types of abnormalities is complex and unclear. For this study, we selected 99 consecutive never-smoking women of East Asian origin with lung adenocarcinomas that were characterized by histologic subtype. We analyzed EGFR mutations by PCR-capillary sequencing, EGFR copy number abnormalities by fluorescence and chromogenic in situ hybridization and quantitative PCR, and EGFR expression by immunohistochemistry with both specific antibodies against exon 19 deletion-mutated EGFR and total EGFR.

Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) gene copy number correlates with response to tyrosine kinase inhibitors in patients with nonsmall cell lung carcinoma. Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), a standard methodology to detect EGFR copy number abnormalities in nonsmall cell lung carcinoma, is limited by instrumentation and cost. Chromogenic in situ hybridization (CISH) is an emerging alternative detection technique using light microscopy, but its utility in assessing EGFR copy number in lung cancer is not established.
