Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to compare clinical outcomes and complications of femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery (FLACS) with conventional phacoemulsification cataract surgery (CPCS) through a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs).
  • The analysis included 25 RCTs with 3,781 eyes, revealing no significant long-term differences in visual acuity and central corneal thickness between the two methods, but FLACS had some short-term advantages in visual acuity and endothelial cell counts post-surgery.
  • Notably, while FLACS showed lower postoperative endothelial cell loss at early follow-ups, CPCS experienced a higher incidence of posterior capsular tears, indicating a potential safety advantage for FLACS in some respects
