Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is accompanied by an altered gut microbiota but whether the latter contributes to carcinogenesis is unclear. Here we show that faecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) using stool samples from patients with HCC spontaneously initiate liver inflammation, fibrosis and dysplasia in wild-type mice, and accelerate disease progression in a mouse model of HCC. We find that HCC-FMT results in gut barrier injury and translocation of live bacteria to the liver.

The faithful charging of amino acids to cognate tRNAs by aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases (AARSs) determines the fidelity of protein translation. Isoleucyl-tRNA synthetase (IleRS) distinguishes tRNA from tRNA solely based on the nucleotide at wobble position (N34), and a single substitution at N34 could exchange the aminoacylation specificity between two tRNAs. Here, we report the structural and biochemical mechanism of N34 recognition-based tRNA discrimination by Saccharomyces cerevisiae IleRS (ScIleRS).

Background: Sepsis represents a critical health crisis often leading to the failure of multiple organs, with the liver playing a pivotal role in controlling inflammation and defending against systemic infections. The exacerbation of liver damage can escalate sepsis severity, underscoring the necessity to delve into the molecular mechanisms underlying sepsis-induced acute liver injury (ALI). The role of alternative splicing (AS), a complex post-transcriptional mechanism, has been occasionally noted in relation to sepsis across different investigations.

Accumulation of ketone bodies in the blood or tissues can trigger ketosis, exerting detrimental effects on bovine oocytes maturation. Exposure to its primary component, β-hydroxybutyric acid (βHB), disrupts mitochondrial function, culminating in the excessive buildup of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and subsequent initiation of apoptosis in oocytes. These ultimately result in poor oocyte quality.

Monitoring enzyme activity is crucial in both scientific research and clinical applications. However, abnormalities in a single enzyme's activity can indicate multiple diseases, limiting the specificity of single enzyme activity monitoring in clinical diagnosis. We developed a dynamic DNA walker that can be sequentially activated by two enzymes, enabling the monitoring and imaging of both enzyme activities within cells.

The spatial numerical association of response codes (SNARC) effect demonstrates that people respond faster to small numbers with their left hand and faster to large numbers with their right hand. The size congruity effect (SCE) refers to the fact that congruent trials between numerical values and physical sizes are faster than incongruent trials. Previous studies have found that the SNARC effect and SCE are independent when magnitudes or sizes are processed explicitly.

Severe acute kidney injury (AKI) is a risk factor for the future development of chronic kidney disease (CKD), and macrophages are an essential cell group implicated in injury, repair, and fibrosis during this progress. However, the underlying mechanism of how macrophages participate in the development of the disease is largely unclear. CD11b (Integrin α) is highly expressed in monocytes/macrophages and has been verified to mediate broad functions.

Despite the implementation of numerous interventions to enhance urban traffic safety, the estimation of the risk of traffic crashes resulting in life-threatening and economic costs remains a significant challenge. In light of the above, an online inference method for traffic crash risk based on the self-developed TAR-DETR and WOA-SA-SVM methods is proposed. The method's robust data inference capabilities can be applied to autonomous mobile robots and vehicle systems, enabling real-time road condition prediction, continuous risk monitoring, and timely roadside assistance.

Herein, the intricate molecular interplay between human serum albumin (HSA) and tungsten disulfide quantum dots (WS QDs) was probed using spectroscopic techniques and sophisticated molecular simulation methods. Fluorescence spectroscopy demonstrated that under physiological conditions, WS QDs forge a non-fluorescent ground-state complex with HSA, facilitated by hydrogen bonding and van der Waals forces, ultimately resulting in the static quenching of the protein's intrinsic fluorescence. Complementary site competition experiments and molecular docking simulations reinforced a precise 1: 1 binding stoichiometry, predominantly targeting HSA's Site I.
