Article Synopsis
  • Organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) seek to achieve near 100% quantum efficiency (QE) by utilizing excitons, but creating effective organic materials can be slow.
  • A new approach involves adding inorganic quantum dots, which serve as charge generation centers, to the organic luminescent layer, allowing unlimited exciton formation.
  • Using Silicon quantum dots (SiQDs), researchers showed significant improvements in external QE and electron transfer times, paving the way for wider applications across different colors and materials.

causes listeriosis, a serious foodborne illness with a high mortality rate, especially in vulnerable populations. It accounts for 19% of foodborne deaths, with invasive cases having a mortality rate of up to 44%, leading to conditions like meningitis, bacteremia, and meningoencephalitis. However, the prognostic factors remain unclear.

Background/objectives: The potential and limitations of chatbots in medical education and clinical decision support, particularly in specialized fields like psychiatry, remain unknown. By using the Rasch model, our study aimed to evaluate the performance of various state-of-the-art chatbots on psychiatry licensing exam questions to explore their strengths and weaknesses.

Methods: We assessed the performance of 22 leading chatbots, selected based on LMArena benchmark rankings, using 100 multiple-choice questions from the 2024 Taiwan psychiatry licensing examination, a nationally standardized test required for psychiatric licensure in Taiwan.

  • Cetuximab, a type of medicine, has been added to chemotherapy and helps patients with a serious type of throat and neck cancer to live longer.
  • In this study, doctors looked at 1,434 cancer patients in Taiwan to see how well they did with cetuximab and created a risk prediction model based on their health and lifestyle factors.
  • The study found that patients had an average survival time of about 8.5 months, and certain factors like how well they were able to perform daily activities and their drinking habits could affect their chances of survival.

Limited knowledge is available about the association between autistic spectrum disorder (ASD) and precocious puberty. Our study examined the association between the two medical conditions and effect modification by sex and neuropsychiatric comorbidities in a nationwide population. To compare the risk of precocious puberty between ASD and non-ASD cases, we conducted a Cox regression analysis using ASD as the exposure and time to precocious puberty as the outcome.

Objective: Both schizophrenia and type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1D) are known as immune-related disorders. We systematically reviewed observational studies to explore the relationship between schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder and T1D.

Methods: A preliminary search of articles was completed using the following databases: Airiti Library, CINAHL Complete (via EBSCOhost), OVID MEDLINE, Embase, and PubMed.

Article Synopsis
  • Local advanced rectal cancer (LARC) is challenging to treat due to its location and high rates of recurrence, making early detection essential; this study examines the potential of AI to analyze CT scans as a more efficient diagnostic tool compared to MRI.
  • The researchers analyzed CT images of 1070 rectal cancer patients using AI models trained on 739 cases, employing advanced techniques for image filtering and classification to identify positive circumferential resection margins (CRM), facilitating the diagnosis of LARC.
  • The AI models showed high accuracy with an AUC of 0.93 when using a soft voting system, indicating a better ability to predict poor clinical outcomes, including higher local recurrence rates and mortality trends among identified LARC cases.

Enteroviruses (EVs), single-stranded, positive-sense RNA viruses, can be classified into four species (A-D), which have previously been linked to a diverse range of disease manifestations and infections affecting the central nervous system. In the Enterovirus species B (EV-B), Echovirus type 11 (E11) has been observed to occasionally circulate in Taiwan, which was responsible for an epidemic of enterovirus infections in 2018. Here, 48 clinical specimens isolated in 2003, 2004, 2009, and 2018 were collected for the high-throughput sequencing.

Article Synopsis
  • There are currently no FDA-approved therapies for nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), with gemcitabine-cisplatin being the standard first-line treatment for recurrent or metastatic NPC (RM-NPC).
  • The JUPITER-02 study aimed to evaluate whether the addition of toripalimab to gemcitabine-cisplatin could improve progression-free and overall survival compared to gemcitabine-cisplatin alone.
  • Results showed that patients receiving toripalimab had significantly longer progression-free survival (21.4 months) and overall survival compared to those on placebo (8.2 months), indicating that toripalimab may enhance treatment outcomes for RM-NPC.
