Methods: This retrospective multicentre study included 49 eyes from 25 patients diagnosed with XLRS. Data collected with multimodal imaging at baseline and last follow-up (when available) included age, best-recorded visual acuity (BRVA), central retinal thickness, macular volume (MV), presence and location of peripheral retinoschisis and pRNFL thickness in the global (G), superotemporal (TS), superonasal (NS), inferotemporal (TI), inferonasal (NI), nasal (N) and temporal (T) sectors.

Background: Noninfectious posterior and panuveitis may exhibit a chronic relapsing clinical course and are challenging to treat. Most affected patients are continuously treated with systemic immunosuppressive therapy, which is potentially associated with significant adverse side effects.

Neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis (NCL) type 1 (CLN1) is a neurodegenerative storage disorder caused by mutations in the gene encoding the lysosomal enzyme palmitoyl-protein thioesterase 1 (PPT1). CLN1 patients suffer from brain atrophy, mental and motor retardation, seizures, and retinal degeneration ultimately resulting in blindness. In primary hyperoxaluria type 1 (PH1), systemic oxalate deposition (oxalosis) in end-stage renal disease (ESRD) is associated with high morbidity and mortality, particularly in children with infantile oxalosis (IO). Combined liver and kidney transplantation (CLKT) is the only curative treatment option in these patients. After CLKT, systemic oxalosis decreases continuously, although only insufficient data are available regarding oxalate retinopathy (ROx), leading to severe visual impairment.

Methods: In this study, 26 human plaques and 12 control vessels without atherosclerosis were immunohistochemically stained to analyze the emergence of mast cells dependent on plaque morphology and to correlate mast cell occurrence with the emergence of myeloid as well as plasmacytoid dendritic cells. Also, mast cell emergence was correlated with the number of pro-inflammatory T cells.
