Sexual and gender minority (SGM) cancer survivors face unmet care needs in accessing cancer health information and social support despite high satisfaction with treatment. SGM patients often delay care due to concerns of discrimination in healthcare settings, though the care experiences of SGM skin cancer survivors are less known. SGM individuals, particularly sexual minority men, report higher skin cancer prevalence and related risk behaviors than heterosexual men.

Hormonal Therapies for Acne: A Comprehensive Update for Dermatologists.

Introduction: Acne impairs quality of life, often leads to permanent scars, and causes psychological distress. This review aims to update dermatologists on the Federal Drug Administration (FDA)-approved and off-label use of combined oral contraceptives (COC), clascoterone, spironolactone, and emerging hormonal therapies for acne treatment.

Methods: We reviewed current literature on hormonal acne treatments and discussed common patient concerns, barriers to care, and individualized care needs.

The impact of chronic intermittent hypoxia on enzymatic activity in memory-associated brain regions of male and female rats.

Background: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is an intermittent hypoxia disorder associated with cognitive dysfunction, including learning and memory impairments. There is evidence that alterations in protease activity and neuronal activation as associated with cognitive dysfunction, are dependent on sex, and may be brain region-specific. However, the mechanisms mediating OSA-induced cognitive impairments are unclear.

Artificial light at night (ALAN) is an escalating anthropogenic stressor that can affect ecological communities over a range of spatial scales by altering key ecological processes, such as predation and herbivory. Shallow subtidal reefs are highly diverse and productive habitats that are vulnerable to ALAN. We investigated rates of consumption by fish (predation and herbivory) under different light treatments (ALAN, dark and daylight conditions) using standardised bioassay methods, i.

Two Cases of Maggot-Associated Bacteremia in Xylazine-Induced Injection Wounds: An Emerging Threat.

The city of Philadelphia has seen an increase in homelessness and substance use disorders, often associated with xylazine-contaminated opiates. Here, we report the first two cases of wound infection and bacteremia associated with the Gram-negative rod species. Both cases were associated with maggot colonization in chronic lower extremity wounds from fentanyl/xylazine injections.

Observation of Topotactic Linker Reorganization in the Aperiodic Metal-Organic Framework TRUMOF-1.

We use synchrotron X-ray diffraction measurements to monitor the solvothermal crystallization mechanism of the aperiodic metal-organic framework TRUMOF-1. Following an initial incubation period, TRUMOF-1 forms as a metastable intermediate that subsequently transforms into an ordered product with triclinic crystal symmetry. We determine the structure of this ordered phase, which we call msw-TRUMOF-1, and show that it is related to TRUMOF-1 through topotactic reorganization of linker occupancies.

Search for Time-Dependent CP Violation in D^{0}→π^{+}π^{-}π^{0} Decays.

A measurement of time-dependent CP violation in D^{0}→π^{+}π^{-}π^{0} decays using a pp collision data sample collected by the LHCb experiment in 2012 and from 2015 to 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 7.7  fb^{-1}, is presented. The initial flavor of each D^{0} candidate is determined from the charge of the pion produced in the D^{*}(2010)^{+}→D^{0}π^{+} decay.

High dose opioid agonist therapy for patients with opioid use disorder: a case series exploring this patient-centered approach.

Objectives: Management of opioid withdrawal in the inpatient setting can vary widely depending on the patient, the physician, and the institution. Although buprenorphine and methadone are first-line therapy for withdrawal management, some patients experience barriers to those medications. In this case series, we explore high dose opioid agonist therapy (HDOAT) as a novel and effective option to bridge to recovery in this particular setting.

Extending the role of tryptase in perioperative anaphylaxis: Predicting positive results in basophil activation tests.

Background: Basophil activation tests (BATs) are useful in identifying culprits of perioperative anaphylaxis (PA), but their utility remains limited due to technical limitations, cost, and availability. Being able to prioritize patients with likely higher yields for BAT would be useful in reducing costs and manpower.

Objective: We sought to investigate whether tryptase levels and clinical parameters may be useful for selecting patients for BATs.

Discharge Outcomes of Hospitalized Patients with New Onset Decompensated Cirrhosis.

Introduction: There are a lack of data describing outcomes and follow-up after hospital discharge for patients with newly diagnosed cirrhosis with complication on index admission. This study examines factors that influence outcomes such as readmission, follow-up, and mortality for patients with newly diagnosed cirrhosis.

Methods: We conducted a single-center retrospective chart review study of 230 patients with newly diagnosed cirrhosis from January 1st, 2020 through December 31st, 2021.

COVID-19 vaccination initiation and completion in a multicenter cohort study of insured US transgender and cisgender adults.

Purpose: Transgender and gender-diverse (TGD) people may have been disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, yet little is known about vaccination status in this population. This multicenter cohort study of insured adults examined the rates of COVID-19 vaccine initiation and completion in TGD persons compared to matched cisgender persons.

Methods: A cohort of TGD persons and matched cisgender persons enrolled in Kaiser Permanente health plans in Northern and Southern California between 12/1/2020 and 7/31/2021 were analyzed.

Hidradenitis suppurativa and psychosocial well-being: a cross-sectional survey analysis from the All of Us research program.

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic inflammatory cutaneous disease that often leads to decreased quality of life. Prior research assessing stress and discrimination related to stigmatization of those with HS is limited. The aim of this study was to examine the association between HS and the following factors related to psychosocial well-being: stress, discrimination, and loneliness.

Modification of χ_{c1}(3872) and ψ(2S) Production in pPb Collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=8.16 TeV.

The LHCb Collaboration measures production of the exotic hadron χ_{c1}(3872) in proton-nucleus collisions for the first time. Comparison with the charmonium state ψ(2S) suggests that the exotic χ_{c1}(3872) experiences different dynamics in the nuclear medium than conventional hadrons, and comparison with data from proton-proton collisions indicates that the presence of the nucleus may modify χ_{c1}(3872) production rates. This is the first measurement of the nuclear modification factor of an exotic hadron.

Cross-Sectional Melt Pool Geometry of Laser Scanned Tracks and Pads on Nickel Alloy 718 for the 2022 Additive Manufacturing Benchmark Challenges.

The Additive Manufacturing Benchmark Series (AM Bench) is a NIST-led organization that provides a continuing series of additive manufacturing benchmark measurements, challenge problems, and conferences with the primary goal of enabling modelers to test their simulations against rigorous, highly controlled additive manufacturing benchmark measurement data. To this end, single-track (1D) and pad (2D) scans on bare plate nickel alloy 718 were completed with thermography, cross-sectional grain orientation and local chemical composition maps, and cross-sectional melt pool size measurements. The laser power, scan speed, and laser spot size were varied for single tracks, and the scan direction was varied for pads.

Isotretinoin for Acne in Transgender and Gender-Diverse Individuals Receiving Masculinizing Hormone Therapy.

Importance: Masculinizing gender-affirming hormonal therapy is associated with the development of acne. While isotretinoin is a highly effective acne treatment, little is known about its effectiveness and safety among transgender and gender-diverse individuals receiving gender-affirming hormonal therapy.

Objective: To evaluate clinical outcomes of isotretinoin among transgender and gender-diverse individuals receiving gender-affirming hormonal therapy.

Visual scanning patterns of a talking face when evaluating phonetic information in a native and non-native language.

When comprehending speech, listeners can use information encoded in visual cues from a face to enhance auditory speech comprehension. For example, prior work has shown that the mouth movements reflect articulatory features of speech segments and durational information, while pitch and speech amplitude are primarily cued by eyebrow and head movements. Little is known about how the visual perception of segmental and prosodic speech information is influenced by linguistic experience.
