Introduction: Gonorrhoea, the sexually transmissible infection caused by , has a substantial impact on sexual and reproductive health globally with an estimated 82 million new infections each year worldwide. antimicrobial resistance continues to escalate, and disease control is largely reliant on effective therapy as there is no proven effective gonococcal vaccine available. However, there is increasing evidence from observational cohort studies that the serogroup B meningococcal vaccine four-component meningitis B vaccine (4CMenB) (Bexsero), licensed to prevent invasive disease caused by , may provide cross-protection against the closely related bacterium .

Introduction: Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) is associated with postoperative gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and erosive esophagitis (EE). The role of crural repair during LSG is still controversial. The preoperative laxity of the gastroesophageal junction (GEJ), graded by the Hill's classification, is more predictive for postoperative GERD and EE after LSG than the presence of a hiatal hernia seen on endoscopy.

Background: Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (SG) is a widely performed bariatric surgery, but it is associated with an increased risk of gastroesophageal reflux (GERD) in the long term. The addition of fundoplication to laparoscopic SG may improve lower oesophageal sphincter function and reduce postoperative GERD.

Objectives: This systematic review and meta-analysis aims to compare the efficacy and safety of SG plus fundoplication (SG + F) versus SG alone for the treatment of patients with severe obesity (≥35 kg/m).

Article Synopsis
  • The development of precise episodic memories in children happens with age, starting from less detailed gist-like memories in younger kids.
  • Research in mice shows that immature hippocampal cells can't form these specific memories due to a lack of competitive neuronal processes until they reach about four weeks old.
  • The maturation of certain interneurons and their supportive networks in the hippocampus is crucial for transforming vague memories into precise ones, enabling better memory formation.

The genome content of adeno-associated virus (AAV) vectors is critical to the safety and potency of AAV-based gene therapy products. Empty capsids are considered a product-related impurity and a critical quality attribute (CQA) of the drug product, thus requiring characterization throughout the production process to demonstrate they are controlled to acceptable levels in the final drug product. Anion exchange chromatography has been used to achieve separation between empty and full capsids, but requires method development and gradient optimization for different serotypes and formulations.

Background: Endoscopic bariatric therapies (EBT) has emerged as an effective treatment in the management of the patient with obesity. Unfortunately, most procedures involve only the restriction of gastric volume without altering the underlying metabolism. The objective of this study was to investigate the practicability and limitations of the metabolic altering procedures: "One anastomosis gastric bypass (OAGB)" with "natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (NOTES)" on human cadavers.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the extent and significance of neuroendocrine (NE) differentiation in basaloid squamous cell carcinomas (B-SqCC) compared to poorly differentiated squamous cell carcinomas (PD-SqCC).
  • It evaluates various samples from patients and uses gene expression analysis to identify differentially expressed genes associated with NE differentiation.
  • Results show that B-SqCC has unique molecular characteristics and poorer disease-free survival, suggesting they are biologically different from other squamous cell carcinomas and share traits with small cell lung cancer.

Identifying gene-regulatory targets of nuclear proteins in tissues is a challenge. Here we describe intranuclear cellular indexing of transcriptomes and epitopes (inCITE-seq), a scalable method that measures multiplexed intranuclear protein levels and the transcriptome in parallel across thousands of nuclei, enabling joint analysis of transcription factor (TF) levels and gene expression in vivo. We apply inCITE-seq to characterize cell state-related changes upon pharmacological induction of neuronal activity in the mouse brain.

Introduction: Given the general lack of literature on opioid and naloxone prescribing guidelines for patients with substance use disorder, we aimed to explore how a physician's behavior and prescribing habits are altered by knowledge of the patient's concomitant use of psychotropic compounds as evident on urine and serum toxicology screens.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective chart review study at a tertiary, academic, Level I trauma center between November 2017-October 2018 that included 358 patients who were discharged from the emergency department (ED) with a diagnosis of fracture, dislocation, or amputation and received an opioid prescription upon discharge. We extracted urine and serum toxicology results, number and amount of prescription opioids upon discharge, and the presence of a naloxone script.
