Purpose: This study analyzed genes associated with the morphology and regulation of ethylnitrosourea (ENU)-induced cataract mouse.

Materials And Methods: Immunohistochemistry analysis using anti-crystallins and PCNA antibody revealed that the localization pattern of these specific markers differed between the cataractous and wild-type lens epithelium. Two-dimensional electrophoresis and microarray techniques were used to identify the proteins and genes related to ENU-induced cataract.

In rodents, a circumvallate papilla (CVP) develops with dynamic changes in epithelial morphogenesis during early tongue development. Molecular and cellular studies of CVP development revealed that there would be two different mechanisms in the apex and the trench wall forming regions with specific expression patterns of Wnt11 and Shh. Molecular interactions were examined using in vitro organ culture with over-expression of Shh, important signalling molecules and various inhibitors revealed that there are two significant different mechanisms in CVP formation by Wnt11 and Shh expressions.

The submandibular gland (SMG) is a tissue that can be regenerated in a tissue injury model and that has adult stem cells capable of self-renewal and differentiation into functional cells. We have analyzed the localization of label-retaining cells (LRCs), which are putative progenitor cells, by using the BrdU-labeling method. 5-Bromo-2'-deoxyuridine (BrdU) injection followed by a long chasing period permitted the identification of LRCs based on the slow-cycling characteristic.

The coxsackievirus group B (CVB) of the genus Enterovirus and the species human enterovirus B is a nonenveloped virus containing a single-stranded positive-sense RNA genome. Coxsackievirus has icosahedral symmetry and four capsid proteins, VP1, VP2, VP3, and VP4. Specific antibodies against each viral protein are prerequisites for various studies.

The 70 kDa heat shock protein (Hsp70) is synthesized in response to a variety of stresses, including ischemia, and is thought to act as a molecular chaperone to prevent protein denaturation and facilitate protein folding. Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), a family of serine proteases, are also upregulated by ischemia and are thought to promote cell death and tissue injury. We examined the influence of Hsp70 on expression and activity of MMPs.

The aberrant protein crosslinks formation during lung injury as results total body irradiation (TBI) and bone marrow transplantation (BMT) therapy has been examined as apossible contributory factor in organ or tissue pathogenesis. Female C3HeB/ FeJ mice were used for an experimental animal. Carbon monoxide uptake (V(CO)) was measured at 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 months after TBI at respective doses of 12, 14, 16 and 18 Gy 16 h prior to syngeneic BMT.
