The COVID-19 pandemic led to delays in routine preventative primary care and declines in HPV immunization rates. Providers and healthcare organizations needed to explore new ways to engage individuals to resume preventive care behaviors. Thus, we evaluated the effectiveness of using customized electronic reminders with provider recommendations for HPV vaccination to increase HPV vaccinations among adolescents and young adults, ages 9-25.

Background: Bilateral nipple-sparing mastectomy (NSM) is a technically feasible operation and is associated with excellent cosmetic outcomes. The aim of this study was to evaluate trends in patient characteristics, indications for surgery and long-term outcomes of bilateral NSM for breast cancer risk reduction over time.

Methods: A review of a single-centre experience with bilateral NSM performed between 2001 and 2017 for breast cancer risk reduction in patients without breast cancer was performed.

The objective was to characterise apixaban pharmacodynamic (PD) activity in umbilical cord (UC), paediatric, and adult plasma. Plasma was obtained from blood samples from six UC donors, 70 paediatric (neonates [birth-≤1 month], infants [>1-≤6 months], toddlers [>6 months-≤2 years], young children [>2-≤6 years], children [>6-≤12 years], adolescents [>12-≤18 years]), and six adult (19-45 years) subjects. Plasma spiked with apixaban 0 (baseline), 30, or 110 ng/ml was analysed for anti-factor Xa activity, factor X levels, prothrombin time (PT), and modified PT (mPT).

Unlabelled: Head lice are a source of scalp irritation, social disruption, and loss of school time. Health care providers need authoritative information to help avoid the costs and risks of ineffective treatment. A review was completed to provide relevant information on infestation treatments available in the United States.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine if there is a difference in neonatal hematocrit at 24 hours of life in full-term newborns for which delayed cord clamping is performed above versus below the perineum.

Materials And Methods: One hundred one patients with singleton pregnancies >37 weeks of gestation presenting for delivery were randomized to delayed cord clamping above or below the perineum. At 24 hours of life, neonatal hematocrit was determined, and the difference was compared using statistical analysis.

This open-label, multicenter, randomized, comparative study evaluated immunogenicity, safety and tolerability of concomitant (Group 1; n=330) vs. non-concomitant (Group 2; n=323) VAQTA™ (25U/0.5 mL) (hepatitis A vaccine; HAV) with ProQuad™ (measles/mumps/rubella/varicella; MMRV) and Prevnar™ (7-valent pneumococcal; PCV-7) in healthy, 12-23 mo old children.

Background: Skin-sparing mastectomy and prosthetic reconstruction can be complicated by poor surgical outcomes in large-breasted, obese women. This article describes a single surgeon's experience comparing conventional skin-sparing mastectomy (SSM) and skin-reduction mastectomy using an autologous vascularized inferior dermal/cutaneous sling (autoderm).

Methods: From July 2007 to May 2012, patients undergoing skin-sparing mastectomy were evaluated for surgical outcomes.

Accomplishing successful microvascular anastomoses is undoubtedly one of the most critical steps in performing free tissue transfer. However, the ideal technique has often been a subject of debate. Therefore, our objective was to review the current literature in an attempt to find objective evidence supporting the superiority of one particular technique.

Background: As a consumer-driven industry, cosmetic plastic surgery is subject to ebbs and flows as the economy changes. There have been many predictions about the short, intermediate, and long-term impact on cosmetic plastic surgery as a result of difficulties in the current economic climate, but no studies published in the literature have quantified a direct correlation.

Objectives: The authors investigate a possible correlation between cosmetic surgery volume and the economic trends of the three major US stock market indices.

Background: Nipple-sparing mastectomy has become an accepted treatment for appropriately selected breast cancers. No reports have correlated patient satisfaction following nipple-sparing mastectomy with objective observer assessments.

Methods: From 2001 to 2008, nipple-sparing mastectomy and immediate reconstruction were performed on 141 patients.

Objectives: To describe our experience with patients who underwent the nipple-sparing mastectomy procedure developed and standardized at our institution and to report clinical outcomes for those patients with a breast cancer diagnosis.

Design: Prospective study for consecutive nipple-sparing mastectomy procedures.

Setting: Multidisciplinary breast center at a large tertiary care facility.

Background: Breast reduction is a very common procedure within the field of plastic surgery, with many techniques. These techniques include differences in the location of the pedicles and of the scars. Another variation on the technique for breast reduction relates to preoperative infiltration of an epinephrine solution to reduce blood loss and operative time.

Women who have had breast conservation therapy for malignancy are candidates for various surgical techniques for immediate or delayed breast reconstruction. These include local tissue rearrangement, therapeutic reduction mammaplasty, and various flap reconstruction procedures. Each technique has advantages and disadvantages, and individual patient factors, particularly breast size and resection defect size, should drive the choice among procedures.

Objective: To compare the long-term cosmesis of Dermabond (octyl-2-cyanoacrylate) and traditional skin sutures among patients undergoing primary cleft lip +/- palate repair.

Materials And Methods: Eleven patients underwent photographic analysis following primary cleft lip +/- palate repair, including the use of Dermabond. Eleven age-matched controls who underwent cleft lip +/- palate repair with traditional suture closure served as controls.

Hypothesis: The rationale for removal of the nipple-areolar complex (NAC) during total mastectomy centers on long-standing concerns about possible neoplastic involvement of the NAC and its postoperative viability. Nipple-sparing mastectomy (NSM) combines a skin-sparing mastectomy with preservation of the NAC, intraoperative pathological assessment of the nipple tissue core, and immediate reconstruction, thereby permitting better cosmesis for patients undergoing total mastectomy. Neoplastic involvement of the NAC can be predicted before surgery and assessed during the operation, and sustained postoperative viability of the NAC is likely with appropriate surgical technique.

The objective of this study was to determine systolic, diastolic, and mean arterial blood pressure (SBP, DBP, and MAP), heart rate (HR), double-product (DP: SBP x HR), and activity levels and their 24h pattern in liver glycogen storage disease (LGSD) patients. A case series of 12 (11 pediatric and one adult) diurnally active LGSD (seven type I, three type III, and two type IX) subjects were simultaneously assessed by 24h ambulatory blood pressure monitoring and wrist actigraphy. Nine subjects were judged to be hypertensive based on the criterion of an elevated 24h mean SBP and/or DBP being elevated beyond reference standards or the SBP and/or DBP load (percentage of time BP exceeds normal values) being greater than 25%.

Neisseria meningitidis is a leading cause of meningitis and septicemia in children and young adults in the United States. Highly publicized outbreaks of disease caused by this organism in communities and on college campuses have resulted in a heightened public awareness of its potentially devastating effects. The rapid progression of signs and symptoms of meningococcemia necessitate early recognition and institution of appropriate therapeutic measures.
