Association between chronic illnesses in older adults and caregiver burden: a cross sectional study in the United States.

Objectives: Caregiver burden is a growing social issue with an increase in the number of older adults with chronic illnesses. We analyzed the association between chronic illnesses among older adults and caregiver burden in financial, emotional, and physical domains, adjusting for caregiver and older adult characteristics.

Method: We used secondary data from the 2022 National Health and Aging Trends Study and the 2022 National Study of Caregiving.

Cross-Cultural Adaptation and Content Validation of the Yonsei Lifestyle Profile for Older Adults in the United States.

Rationale: As the global population ages, there is a growing need for tools to assess lifestyle factors that impact the health and quality of life of older adults. The Yonsei Lifestyle Profile (YLP), originally developed in South Korea, is a comprehensive tool for evaluating key lifestyle domains. However, cultural and linguistic differences between countries necessitate the adaptation of such tools for use in diverse populations.

The association between self-rated health, number of family members, and cognitive function in community-dwelling older adults: Mediating role of depression.

With the increasing number of older adults, research on cognitive function has expanded. However, studies examining the mediating effect of depression on the association between complex factors and cognitive function in older adults are still insufficient. Additionally, there is a lack of studies that have investigated these relationships by integrating multiple factors related to the cognitive function of older adults.

Dysphagia and Functional Limitations Among Adults in the United States: Findings from the 2022 National Health Interview Survey.

Dysphagia or swallowing dysfunction is associated with reduced quality of life and poor long term outcomes. While standard dysphagia treatment focuses on improving swallowing function, it is not clear if people with dysphagia also have difficulties performing daily tasks. This study aimed to determine if individuals with dysphagia had difficulties with participating in daily tasks requiring physical function, as compared to those with no dysphagia.

Trends and risk factors among adults admitted to the emergency department with fall-related eye injuries.

Background/purpose: Eye injuries can happen to people of any age and for many reasons; among these is a fall. The aims of this study were to: (1) examine trends among fall-related eye injuries in working-age and older adults admitted to the emergency department (ED) from 2012 to 2021; and (2) investigate and compare the risk factors associated with fall-related eye injuries between working-age adults and older adults.

Design: We examined a retrospective cohort in the 2012-2021 National Electronic Injury Surveillance System (NEISS) databases.

Relationship between Emotional Support for Parents and Autistic Children's Participation in Social and Physical Activities.

The purpose of this study was to determine if parents receiving emotional support is positively correlated with children's participation in physical and social activities and if such a correlation exists between parental emotional support in children labeled as autistic. Data were drawn from 30,501 children aged 6 to 17 years in the 2020 National Survey of Children's Health database and analyzed using a retrospective cross-sectional approach based on multivariate linear regression models. Results showed parental emotional support was statistically significantly correlated with children's physical and social activity in the total sample but was not significant for the emotional support of parents with autistic children.
