7409N31 was isolated from the feces of a healthy 11-day-old Hanwoo calf from a farm in Geochang-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do, Korea. The genome of the strain was completely sequenced using the PacBio RSII sequencing system, and it was confirmed that it was composed of one circular chromosome. The size of the entire genome was 2,198,442 bp, and it had 35.

Article Synopsis
  • Strain 1394N20 is a bacterium isolated from the feces of healthy Hanwoo calves, indicating its presence in the intestinal flora of livestock.
  • Its genome consists of a single circular chromosome with over 2.2 million base pairs, containing genes for 2,281 proteins, 15 rRNAs, and 65 tRNAs.
  • The strain encodes an enzyme called endoglucanase, which breaks down complex carbohydrates, suggesting its potential use as a probiotic to improve nutrient digestibility in animals.

Infectious calf diarrhea is one of the most significant diseases of neonatal calves. This study is conducted to identify the prevalence of pathogens in calf diarrhea for 2 years. A total of 544 feces samples from Korean native beef calves were obtained to investigate selected seven pathogens causing calf diarrhea: bovine rotavirus, bovine coronavirus, , bovine viral diarrhea virus, species, K99, and species.

Bovine coronavirus (BCoV) is associated with severe diarrhea, dehydration, and depression, which result in significant economic damages in the dairy and beef cattle industries worldwide. However, differences in the gut microbiota structure and their correlations with differing physiological parameters between BCoV-infected calves with diarrhea and recovered calves are not well understood. In this study, fecal specimens were collected from 10 post-weaned calves, before and after 2 months of fluid therapy, and the samples were used for microbiota analysis.

Article Synopsis
  • This study re-evaluated previous genome-wide association studies (GWASs) related to ANCA-associated vasculitis using statistical methods like false-positive report probability (FPRP) and Bayesian false discovery probability (BFDP).
  • The researchers identified a total of 241 articles, narrowing it down to 7 for in-depth analysis, revealing that most significant single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) from GWASs were noteworthy, especially those with borderline p-values.
  • The gene ontology analysis highlighted immune-related terms and pathways, particularly emphasizing the interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) signaling pathway as a potential key mechanism in the complex causes of ANCA-associated vasculitis.

Alternative materials obtained from natural resources have recently garnered considerable attention as an innovative solution to bring unprecedented advances in various energy storage systems. Here, we present a new class of heterolayered nanomat-based hierarchical/asymmetric porous membrane with synergistically coupled chemical activity as a nanocellulose-mediated green material strategy to develop smart battery separator membranes far beyond their current state-of-the-art counterparts. This membrane consists of a terpyridine (TPY)-functionalized cellulose nanofibril (CNF) nanoporous thin mat as the top layer and an electrospun polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP)/polyacrylonitrile (PAN) macroporous thick mat as the support layer.
