Background: The hospital volume-outcome relationship for complex procedures has led to the suggestion that care should be centralized. This study was performed to investigate whether centralization is occurring for pancreatoduodenectomy (PD) and to examine its effect on short-term postoperative outcomes.
Methods: We queried the New York State Statewide Planning and Research Cooperative System database (n = 6,185, 2002-2011) and the California and Florida State Inpatient Databases (n = 6,766 and 4,810, respectively, 2002-2011) for PD.

Methods: Between February 2010 and July 2014, 63 patients who underwent veno-arterial ECMO were retrospectively studied. Patients who developed postprocedural vascular complications after manual compression were identified, and the hemostasis success rate was evaluated.

Background: Laparoscopic colectomy has been shown to have equivalent oncologic outcomes to open colectomy for the management of colon cancer, but its adoption nationally has been slow. This study investigates the prevalence and factors associated with laparoscopic colorectal resection at National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) centers.
Methods: Data on patients undergoing surgery for colon and rectal cancer at NCCN centers from 2005 to 2010 were obtained from chart review of medical records for the NCCN Outcomes Project and included information on socioeconomic status, insurance coverage, comorbidity, and physician-reported Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) performance status.
Development of DNA aptamer screens that are both simple and informative can increase the success rate of DNA aptamer selection and induce greater adoption. High eIF4e levels contribute to malignancies, thus eIF4e presents itself as a valuable target for DNA aptamer-based inhibition screen. Here, we demonstrate a method for the rapid selection of looped DNA aptamers against eIF4e by combining negative selection and purification in a single step, followed by characterization with high throughput sequencing.
