Objectives: To compare the survival outcomes between minimally invasive surgery (MIS) and laparotomy radical hysterectomy in patients with early-stage cervical cancer.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective study involving women who received a radical hysterectomy for cervical cancer, stage IA1 with lymphovascular invasion, IA2, IB1, IB2, or IIA from 2008 to 2016. Clinicopathologic and perioperative outcomes were compared using appropriate statistical methodologies.

Article Synopsis
  • Carcinosarcomas, also known as malignant mixed mullerian tumors (MMMTs), are rare cancers that include both carcinomatous and sarcomatous components, primarily found in the female reproductive organs but rarely in other areas.
  • This report details two cases of primary peritoneal carcinosarcomas: one case involved an 81-year-old woman who underwent incomplete surgery and later died, while a 76-year-old woman responded well to optimal surgery followed by chemotherapy and remained tumor-free for six months.
  • The findings suggest that complete surgical removal and a combination of carboplatin and paclitaxel chemotherapy may provide better disease control for these rare cancers.
