Development and Evaluation of Neighborhood Care Volunteer Training Programs-Preparing for Older Adult Community Care in Taiwan.

Background: The prevalence of chronic diseases and functional disorders is projected to escalate as the older adult population increases. Thus, the demand for and burdens of long-term care are increasing. Training middle-aged and older volunteers at the community level will enhance health promotion and disease prevention in communities.

Predictors of metastatic disease in men with biochemical failure following radical prostatectomy.

Purpose: We determined clinical and pathological predictors of positive bone scans and computerized tomography (CT) in patients with biochemical recurrence after radical prostatectomy (RP).

Materials And Methods: A retrospective analysis of patients treated with RP at West Los Angeles Veterans Affairs Medical Center and University of California-Los Angeles Medical Center was performed to identify men with biochemical recurrence. All postoperative bone scans and pelvic CT following recurrence and prior to the initiation of hormone ablation therapy were reviewed.

Taiwanese nurses' most unforgettable rescue experiences in the disaster area after the 9-21 earthquake in Taiwan.

The purpose of this study was to reveal the most unforgettable rescue experiences of nurses at the central site of the 9-21 Taiwan earthquake during the crucial early recovery stage-the first 72h. A purposive sample of 46 nurses was obtained (40 women and 6 men, with an average age of 28). Data were collected using semi-structured interviews and analyzed by content analysis.
