Colloidal crystal engineering with DNA allows one to design diverse superlattices with tunable lattice symmetry, composition, and spacing. Most of these structures follow the complementary contact model, maximizing DNA hybridization on building blocks and producing relatively close-packed lattices. Here, low-symmetry kagome superlattices are assembled from DNA-modified gold bipyramids that can engage only in partial DNA surface matching.

In principle, designing and synthesizing almost any class of colloidal crystal is possible. Nonetheless, the deliberate and rational formation of colloidal quasicrystals has been difficult to achieve. Here we describe the assembly of colloidal quasicrystals by exploiting the geometry of nanoscale decahedra and the programmable bonding characteristics of DNA immobilized on their facets.

We report several types of entropy-driven phase transition behaviors in hard bipyramid systems using Monte Carlo simulations. Bipyramidal nanoparticle shapes are synthesizable from gold and silver, with sizes ranging from tens to hundreds of nanometers. We report numerous colloidal crystalline phases with varying symmetries and complexities as the bipyramid aspect ratio and base polygon are varied.

As a possible marker of oxidative stress, many studies have measured whole blood reduced glutathione (GSH) and oxidized glutathione (GSSG). However, large differences in GSH and GSSG levels reported in different studies, calls for a reliable standardized method. In this study, we validate not only analytical performance of new measurement method for GSH and GSSG, but also the clinical utility of these markers in a mouse model with chronic oxidative stress.

We report on the fabrication of a biaxially stretchable array of high performance microsupercapacitors (MSCs) on a deformable substrate. The deformable substrate is designed to suppress local strain applied to active devices by locally implanting pieces of stiff polyethylene terephthalate (PET) films within the soft elastomer of Ecoflex. A strain suppressed region is formed on the top surface of the deformable substrate, below which PET films are implanted.

Stretchable devices are fabricated on a newly designed deformable substrate. Active devices attached on the stiff islands are electrically connected by an embedded EGaIn interconnection, which ensures protection from external damage. In this structure, the local strain in the active device area is estimated to be less than 1% under applied strain of 30% by analysis of the strain distribution using the finite element method.

We report on the successful fabrication of stretchable microsupercapacitor (MSC) arrays on a deformable polymer substrate that exhibits high electrochemical performance even under mechanical deformation such as bending, twisting, and uniaxial strain of up to 40%. We designed the deformable substrate to minimize the strain on MSCs by adopting a heterogeneous structure consisting of stiff PDMS islands (on which MSCs are attached) and a soft thin film (mixture of Ecoflex and PDMS) between neighboring PDMS islands.
