Article Synopsis
  • Vasa praevia (VP) is a serious condition where fetal blood vessels are near the cervix, and detecting it before birth can significantly improve baby survival rates.
  • The study aimed to demonstrate a two-stage ultrasound screening process for identifying VP during routine prenatal care, which could help prevent stillbirths and perinatal deaths.
  • Analyzing data from over 53,000 pregnancies, the study found that VP occurred in about 1 in 1,192 pregnancies, with specific factors like low-lying placenta and placenta previa being strong indicators of the condition.

Background: Most of the cases of hyperglycemia during pregnancy are attributed to gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) (75-90%). Women diagnosed with GDM are at an increased risk for complications during pregnancy and delivery. This observational prospective study aimed to investigate the potential risk of GDM among Egyptian females following in vitro fertilization (IVF) pregnancies compared to spontaneous pregnancies (SC).

Platelet hyperactivity is one of the key factors implicated in the development and progression of diabetic vascular complications. Activated platelets mediate leukocyte recruitment that further enhances inflammatory responses in vascular wall ultimately resulting in atherosclerotic complications. Since vitamin D insufficiency is highly prevalent in diabetics, we aimed to evaluate the effect of three dosage forms of vitamin D supplementation on lipid profile, NF-κB, platelet aggregation, and platelet calcium content in type 2 diabetic patients.
