Purpose: To elucidate an association between latanoprost and clinically significant cystoid macular edema (CME) in patients after uneventful phacoemulsification with intraocular lens implantation.
Setting: Bergman Eye Center, Department of Ophthalmology, The University of Chicago Hospitals, Chicago, Illinois, USA.
Methods: One hundred forty-five consecutive patients (162 eyes) who had phacoemulsification from July 1999 to December 2000 were retrospectively reviewed to determine which patients developed CME.

We present a measurement of CP-violating asymmetries in B0-->pi(+)pi(-) decays based on a 41.8 fb(-1) data sample collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider. We fully reconstruct one neutral B meson as a B0-->pi(+)pi(-) CP eigenstate and identify the flavor of the accompanying B meson from its decay products.

The presence of large missing transverse energy (E(T)), additional photons, or additional leptons in these events is also analyzed.

Microdialysis probes were inserted into both the jugular vein toward the right atrium and bile duct of male Sprague-Dawley rats for biological fluid sampling after administration of fluconazole at 10 mg/kg through the femoral vein. Fluconazole and dialysates were separated using a Zorbax phenyl column maintained at ambient temperature.

We systematically examined the baseline levels of NF-kappaB activity of representative carcinoma cell lines, and the change of NF-kappaB activity in response to a challenge with four major anticancer drugs (doxorubicin, 5-fluorouracil, cisplatin, and paclitaxel). We found that the basal level of NF-kappaB activity was heterogeneous and roughly correlated with drug resistance.

The downstream mechanism of this discrepant cellular response was investigated. Both cisplatin and doxorubicin activated nuclear ERK2 and nuclear transcription factor kappa B (NF kappa B) of SiHa cells.

The ratio of F(D)(jj) at sqrt[s] = 630 GeV to F(D)(jj) obtained from a similar measurement at sqrt[s] = 1800 GeV is compared with expectations from QCD factorization and other theoretical predictions. We also report a measurement of the xi ( x-Pomeron) and beta ( x of parton in Pomeron) dependence of F(D)(jj) at sqrt[s] = 1800 GeV.

These contaminants arise through homologous recombination between identical sequences framing the E1 locus displayed by 293 cells, and the vector backbones. Modified recombinogenic sequences (syngen) were thus introduced within the vector backbone, and virus viability and RCA emergence were assessed.

The process is common to neoangiogenesis pannus formation and cartilage degradation within arthritic joints. Since 80% of synovial cells express urokinase plasminogen activator receptor (uPAR), we investigated the inhibition of plasmin activation in a collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) mice model, by expressing a uPA/uPAR antagonist molecule (ATF) fused to human serum albumin (HSA) to extend its serum half-life.

Attempts have been made to enlarge this therapeutic strategy to nonthyroid tumors by coupling radioactive iodide administration with transfer of the sodium iodide symporter (NIS) gene into target cells, for example with an adenoviral vector (AdNIS). Although efficient iodide uptake was achieved in the tumors treated with AdNIS, no therapeutic effect could be observed with 131I, most probably because the iodide retention time in the target cells was short.

We present a technique, vitrectorhexis, in which a vitrector-cut capsulotomy is used to treat anterior capsule contraction syndrome. A vitrector handpiece is used to remove all fibrous capsule tissue and residual lens epithelial cells from the anterior chamber. Vitrectorhexis may be an alternative to neodymium:YAG laser capsulotomy as it decreases the risk of radial tear extension to the zonules and of secondary IOL decentration.

We report on a measurement of the mean charged-particle multiplicity of jets in dijet events with dijet masses in the range 80-630 GeV/c(2), produced at the Tevatron in pp collisions with square root (s) = 1.8 TeV and recorded by the Collider Detector at Fermilab. The data are fit to perturbative-QCD calculations carried out in the framework of the modified leading log approximation and the hypothesis of local parton-hadron duality.

1. By performing microdialysis, this study investigated the pharmacokinetics of unbound camptothecin in rat blood, brain and bile in the presence of P-glycoprotein mediated transport modulators (cyclosporin A, berberine, quercetin, naringin and naringenin). Pharmacokinetic parameters of camptothecin were assessed using a non-compartmental model.
