Using data from 2.9  fb(-1) of integrated luminosity collected with the CDF II detector at the Tevatron, we search for resonances decaying into a pair of on-shell gauge bosons, WW or WZ, where one W decays into an electron and a neutrino, and the other boson decays into two jets. We observed no statistically significant excess above the expected standard model background, and we set cross section limits at 95% confidence level on G* (Randall-Sundrum graviton), Z', and W' bosons.

This Letter describes the current most precise measurement of the W boson pair production cross section and most sensitive test of anomalous WWγ and WWZ couplings in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. The WW candidates are reconstructed from decays containing two charged leptons and two neutrinos.

Maternal methamphetamine (MA) abuse during pregnancy has been proved to induce various impacts on the development of infant and child. In this study, we examined whether prenatal exposure to MA would affect the development of nociceptive system by measuring the responses to noxious stimulation in the developing rat. Adult female Sprague-Dawley rats received bi-daily subcutaneous injection of methamphetamine (5mg/kg) or isovolumetric normal saline since the day of mating till the day of delivery.

Article Synopsis
  • The CDF II experiment at the Tevatron searched for the standard model Higgs boson produced with W or Z bosons in pp collisions at 1.96 TeV, using a data sample of 2.1 fb(-1).
  • The analysis focused on events without charged leptons, showing transverse momentum imbalance, and involved two or three jets, with at least one jet from a b hadron decay.
  • The results showed good agreement with background predictions, establishing 95% confidence level upper limits on the production cross section for Higgs boson masses between 110 GeV/c² and 150 GeV/c², with specific limits indicating that for a mass of 115 GeV/c², the observed limit was

The cross section for jets from b quarks produced with a W boson has been measured in pp collision data from 1.9 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity recorded by the CDF II detector at the Tevatron. The W+b-jets process poses a significant background in measurements of top quark production and prominent searches for the Higgs boson.

We report the most restrictive direct limits on masses of fourth-generation down-type quarks b{'}, and quarklike composite fermions (B or T{5/3}), decaying promptly to tW{-/+}. We search for a significant excess of events with two same-charge leptons (e, mu), several hadronic jets, and missing transverse energy. An analysis of data from pp collisions with an integrated luminosity of 2.

We report a measurement of the lifetime of the Lambda(b)(0) baryon in decays to the Lambda(c)(+)pi(-) final state in a sample corresponding to 1.1 fb(-1) collected in pp collisions at square root of s = 1.96 TeV by the CDF II detector at the Tevatron collider.

We report two complementary measurements of the WW + WZ cross section in the final state consisting of an electron or muon, missing transverse energy, and jets, performed using pp collision data at square root of s = 1.96 TeV collected by the CDF II detector. The first method uses the dijet invariant mass distribution while the second more sensitive method uses matrix-element calculations.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers conducted a search for Higgs bosons in two-Higgs-doublet models, focusing on decays to tau lepton pairs, using data from the CDF II experiment at Fermilab.
  • Despite analyzing data corresponding to 1.8 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity, no evidence for a Higgs boson signal was found in the mass distribution of events.
  • The findings help establish exclusion limits in a two-dimensional parameter space involving tanbeta (the ratio of vacuum expectation values) and m(A) (the mass of a specific pseudoscalar boson).

A combined mass and particle identification fit is used to make the first observation of the decay B(s)(0) --> D(s)(+/-)K(-/+) and measure the branching fraction of B(s)(0) --> D(s)(+/-)K(-/+) relative to B(s)(0) --> D(s)(+)pi(-). This analysis uses 1.2 fb(-1) integrated luminosity of pp collisions at square root(s) = 1.

Article Synopsis
  • The study looked at how different types of painful experiences affect pain control in rats, specifically focusing on electrical shocks and a chemical called formalin.
  • Researchers found that both ways of causing pain led to a similar response in the rats, which showed less reaction to pain afterward (called DNIC).
  • However, they discovered that the ways the body controls this pain relief are different depending on whether the pain came from the electrical shock or the chemical, which means the brain handles different types of pain in unique ways.

The aging population is a global phenomenon. The skyrocketing costs of healthcare and the shortage of healthcare providers will soon become a crucial issue all over the world. Taiwan's government executed the Taiwan's Telehealth Pilot Project (TTPP) from July 1, 2008 to December 31, 2008, using healthcare information technology to tackle these problems.

Biodegradation process modeling of municipal solid waste (MSW) bioreactor landfills requires the knowledge of various process reactions and corresponding kinetic parameters. Mechanistic models available to date are able to simulate biodegradation processes with the help of pre-defined species and reactions. Some of these models consider the effect of critical parameters such as moisture content, pH, and temperature.

The numerical computer models that simulate municipal solid waste (MSW) bioreactor landfills have mainly two components--a biodegradation process module and a multi-phase flow module. The biodegradation model describes the chemical and microbiological processes. The models available to date include predefined solid waste biodegradation reactions and participating species.

Objective: The aim of this study was to describe the natural history and outcomes of fetal congenital cystic adenomatoid malformation (CCAM) of the lung in three antenatally diagnosed cases.

Case Report: Three women whose fetuses had CCAM of the lung between 2004 and 2006 chose to continue their pregnancies. We followed up these fetuses every 2 weeks and observed whether there were CCAM-related complications, such as polyhydramnios, mediastinal shifting, and even hydrops fetalis.
