Background: The traditional treatment of acute pericarditis includes non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents (NSAIDs) or glucocorticoids. The addition of colchicine has been found to reduce the rate of recurrences. Glucocorticoids, however, may attenuate this effect, although the available data are limited.
