Bacterial resistance has become a global concern for public health agencies. Various resistance mechanisms found in Staphylococcus aureus strains grant this bacterium resistance to a wide range of antibiotics, contributing to the rise in human mortality worldwide. Resistance mediated by efflux pumps is one of the most prevalent mechanisms in multi-resistant bacteria, which has aroused the interest of several researchers in the search for possible efflux pump inhibitors.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the ability of tannic acid to inhibit the gene expression of the NorA efflux pump in Staphylococcus aureus and to evaluate the in silico effect on the pump. Efflux pump inhibition was evaluated by fluorimetry.

Background: The bacterium Staphylococcus aureus has stood out for presenting a high adaptability, acquiring resistance to multiple drugs. The search for natural or synthetic compounds with antibacterial properties capable of reversing the resistance of S. aureus is the main challenge to be overcome today.

Among these actions, are strategies using biological control vectors, a field where Wolbachia pipientis has shown itself as useful. Wolbachia pipientis, an obligatory intracellular Gram-negative bacteria, which parasites arthropods naturally or through laboratory-induced infections, is capable of manipulating the reproduction of its host.

Staphylococcus aureus is a Gram-positive bacterium responsible for a number of diseases and has demonstrated resistance to conventional antibiotics. This study aimed to evaluate the antibacterial activity of eugenol and its derivatives allylbenzene, 4-allylanisole, isoeugenol and 4-allyl-2,6-dimethoxyphenol against the S. aureus NorA efflux pump (EP) in association with norfloxacin and ethidium bromide.

Antifungal assays were used to determine the half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) of the extract in isolation and in combination with fluconazole using the broth microdilution method and spectrophotometric readings, followed by verification of the minimum fungicidal concentration by solid medium subculture. According to the cell viability curve, both extracts inhibited fungal growth in a concentration dependent manner, in addition to showing inhibitory concentrations similar to fluconazole.

This causes various environmental hazards and human health. Many substances are capable of reversing the toxicity of mercuric chloride in the environment.

Access to over-the-counter medication, the indiscriminate use of antibacterials and high rates of hospitalization have contributed to the increase in cases. This picture has led to the search for new alternative drugs.

The bacterial resistance mechanisms are several, with efflux pumps being one of the main ones. These pumps are membrane proteins with the function of removing antibiotics from the cell cytoplasm.

In this study, the essential oil from Chenopodium ambrosioides Leaves and its main constituent α-Terpinene were used in the antibacterial and potentiating activity of antibiotics and ethidium bromide assays, against the bacterial strains Staphylococcus aureus IS-58, carriers of efflux pumps. The Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) was determined using a microdilution method.

The therapeutic combinations have been increasingly used against fungal resistance. Natural products have been evaluated in combination with pharmaceutical drugs in the search for new components able to work together in order to neutralize the multiple resistance mechanisms found in yeasts from the genus Candida.
