Article Synopsis
  • A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted to examine the link between smoking and early dental implant failure, involving 32 observational studies published between 1994 and 2024.
  • The analysis revealed that smokers are at a significantly higher risk of early dental implant failure compared to non-smokers, with an odds ratio of 2.59 at the implant level and 2.00 at the individual level.
  • Results also indicated that the risk of implant failure was particularly high in the maxilla (upper jaw) compared to the mandible (lower jaw), suggesting that smoking cessation is essential for improving dental implant success rates.

The frequent refractory response of patients to the treatment of medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRJON) has attracted clinicians' attention to several treatments. However, they are at best, palliative, and have a higher failure rate than previous treatments. The present meta-analysis was performed to evaluate the clinical effectiveness of autologous platelet concentrates (APCs) combined with surgery in the treatment of MRONJ.

This meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the clinical effectiveness of autologous platelet concentrates (APC) + coronally advanced flap (CAF) (Group A) compared with connective tissue graft (CTG) + CAF (Group B), and CAF alone (Group C), in patients with Miller Class I or II gingival recessions. Relevant articles published before December 2018 were retrieved electronically without date or language restriction and screened according to inclusion criteria. Quantitative meta-analysis was conducted comparing the groups.

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the relative functional volume of bilateral lumbar multifidus (LM) muscles across different stages and ages of patients with lumbar disc herniation (LDH). The relative functional volumes of LM muscles in both non-affected and affected sides in the L4-L5 and L5-S1 segmental level were measured in a resting prone position, and visual analogue score (VAS) for pain and Japanese Orthopedic Association (JOA) scores were recorded. The correlation between changes in the relative net volume of LM muscles and times of onset, ages, VAS and JOA scores were analyzed.
