Introduction: Childhood obesity is a growing global health concern, but few studies have investigated dietary factors specifically related to obesity and abdominal obesity in children and adolescents. Herein, we aimed to identify the dietary factors affecting childhood obesity in Korean children and adolescents.

Methods: Data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Survey (KNHANES) VIII were analyzed using K-means clustering analysis to identify distinct clusters based on nine variables related to dietary habit, nutritional status, and nutritional education.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the WFS1 gene, linked to hearing loss and other health issues, in families with DFNA6/14/38 using exome sequencing, identifying two pathogenic variants.
  • Structural analysis revealed how these variants disrupt WFS1 functions, affecting protein stability and interaction crucial for hearing.
  • Cochlear implantation outcomes were analyzed, suggesting a relationship between genotype and phenotype in patients with WFS1-related conditions.

This study aimed to investigate the effects of high-fat diet (HFD) supplemented with berberine on growth, lipid metabolism, antioxidant capacity and lipometabolism-related genes expression of AMPK signaling pathway in juvenile black carp (Mylopharyngodon piceus). Five hundred and forty healthy fish (4.04 ± 0.

Strategies for stem cell-based cardiac regeneration and repair are key issues for the ischemic heart disease (IHD) patients with chronic complications related to ischemic necrosis. Cardiac stem cells (CSCs) have demonstrated high therapeutic efficacy for IHD treatment owing to their specific cardiac-lineage commitment. The therapeutic potential of CSCs could be further enhanced by designing a cellular spheroid formulation.

Mouse embryonic stem cells (ESCs) are maintained in serum with leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) to maintain self-renewal and pluripotency. Recently, a 2i culture method was reported using a combination of MEK inhibition (MEKi) and GSK3 inhibition (GSK3i) with LIF to maintain ESCs in a naive ground state. How 2i maintains a ground state of ESCs remains elusive.

Skeletal muscle cell differentiation requires a family of proteins called myogenic regulatory factors (MRFs) to which MyoD belongs. The activity of MyoD is under epigenetic regulation, however, the molecular mechanism by which histone KMTs and KDMs regulate MyoD transcriptional activity through methylation remains to be determined. Here we provide evidence for a unique regulatory mechanism of MyoD transcriptional activity through demethylation by Jmjd2C demethylase whose level increases during muscle differentiation.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined the effects of different doses of Ficus carica polysaccharide (FCP) on gene expressions related to immunity in grass carp when supplemented in their feed.
  • Results showed that FCP significantly increased the expression of immune-related genes IL-1β and TNF-α, while reducing HSP70 expression.
  • The fish fed with FCP exhibited improved immune responses and a higher survival rate (60%) against Flavobacterium columnare compared to the control group (30%).

The title mononuclear nickel(II) complex, [Ni(C(9)H(9)ClNO(2))(2)]·H(2)O, was obtained by the reaction of 5-chloro-salicyl-aldehyde, 2-amino-ethanol and nickel nitrate in methanol. The Ni atom is six-coordinated by two phenolate O, two imine N and two hy-droxy O atoms from two crystallographically different Schiff base ligands, forming an octa-hedral geometry. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked through inter-molecular O-H⋯O and O-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds.

In the mononuclear title complex, [Ni(NCS)(2)(C(14)H(22)N(2)O(2))(2)], the Ni atom lies on an inversion centre. It is chelated by the phenolate O and imine N atoms from two zwitterionic Schiff base ligands, and is also coordinated by the N atoms from two thio-cyanate ligands, giving a slightly distorted octa-hedral geometry. Intra-molecular N-H⋯O and N-H⋯N hydrogen bonds are observed.
