Euiin-tang reduces obesity and hypertension. Patients with obesity may develop obesity-induced asthma (OIA) owing to phlegm dampness. This study aimed to determine whether euiin-tang alleviates high-fat diet (HFD)-induced OIA in C57BL/6 mice.

Inhibitors of sodium/glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2), such as empagliflozin and canagliflozin, have been widely used to block glucose reabsorption in the proximal tubules of kidneys in patients with diabetes. A meta-analysis suggested that SGLT2 inhibitors are associated with a decreased risk of asthma development. Therefore, we investigated whether SGLT2 inhibitors could suppress allergic asthma.

Article Synopsis
  • Asthma involves chronic inflammation and changes in the respiratory tract, with PPARs being key in managing these processes; particularly PPARγ has been studied, but PPARα/δ's role remains unexplored.
  • The study investigates the effects of elafibranor, a PPARα/δ dual agonist, on allergic asthma triggered by ovalbumin (OVA), showing promising results without harming cells.
  • Elafibranor was effective in reducing airway hyper-responsiveness, immune cell increases, pro-inflammatory cytokine levels, and lung inflammation in mice with OVA-induced allergic asthma, suggesting its potential as a treatment for this condition.
