Article Synopsis
  • X-ray photon correlation spectroscopy (XPCS) is a technique that can observe atomic-scale dynamics in materials during both stable and changing conditions.
  • This study focuses on the relaxor ferroelectric material PbMgNbO (PMN) and shows that a weak AC electric field significantly affects the speckle patterns in diffuse scattering related to polar nanodomains.
  • The researchers propose a model to explain the unexpected dynamic tilting of the material in response to the X-ray beam, suggesting that this piezoresponse may be important for interpreting results in XPCS and similar studies of insulating materials.

Objective: We compared the clinical efficacy between the vacuum sealing drainage (VSD)-assisted irrigation technique and traditional abscess incision and drainage technique in the treatment of severe multiple-space infections in the oral, maxillofacial, and cervical regions.

Methods: Data of 73 patients with severe oral, maxillofacial, and cervical infections, who were admitted to the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department at the First Affiliated Hospital of Fujian Medical University between June 2014 and May 2017, were retrospectively collected. Patients were divided into two groups based on the treatments.

Objective: To investigate the mechanism underlying the hypercoagulable state in severe pre-eclampsia.

Methods: Plasma tissue factor (TF) and tissue factor pathway inhibitor (TFPI) expression from pre-eclampsia patients and healthy pregnant controls were determined by ELISA. Placental TF and TFPI gene and protein expression were detected by quantitative RT-PCR, immunohistochemistry, and Western analysis.

Objective: Cytokine imbalance might have a pivotal role in hypercoagulability seen in preeclampsia. Our objective was to determine the relationship of blood coagulation related factors in placental tissue and peripheral blood in preeclamptic and normal pregnancies.

Methods: We compared mRNA and protein levels of tissue-type plasminogen activator (t-PA), plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1), and tissue factor (TF) in the placenta of normal and preeclamptic pregnancies.

A new method orthogonal projection to latent structures (O-PLS) combined with artificial neural networks is investigated for non-destructive determination of Ampicillin powder via near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy. The modern NIR spectroscopy analysis technique is efficient, simple and non-destructive, which has been used in chemical analysis in diverse fields. Be a preprocessing method, O-PLS provides a way to remove systematic variation from an input data set X not correlated to the response set Y, and does not disturb the correlation between X and Y.
