Potassium‑channel tetramerization-domain-containing 1 (KCTD1) mutations are reported to result in scalp‑ear‑nipple syndrome. These mutations occur in the conserved broad‑complex, tramtrack and bric a brac domain, which is associated with inhibited transcriptional activity. However, the mechanisms of KCTD1 mutants have not previously been elucidated; thus, the present study aimed to investigate whether KCTD1 mutants affect their interaction with transcription factor AP‑2α and their regulation of the Wnt pathway.

Background: Patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) may have elevated left ventricular filling pressure with exercise (LVFP-ex), despite normal LVFP at rest. The aim of this study was to assess the diagnostic value of resting left atrial strain (LAS) in detecting elevated LVFP-ex in patients with dyspnea evaluated on exercise stress echocardiography.

Methods: Two-dimensional speckle-tracking analysis for LAS was performed in 669 consecutive patients (mean age, 64 ± 14 years; 53% men) who underwent treadmill echocardiographic evaluation and had left ventricular ejection fractions ≥ 50%.

Ibrutinib is an FDA-approved drug to treat B-lymphoid malignancies, which functions mechanistically as a covalent inhibitor for Bruton's tyrosine kinase (BTK). During the course of screening more potent and selective BTK inhibitors, we discovered that MM2-48, an ibrutinib analogue that contains the alkynyl amide functional group in place of the acrylamide warhead, exhibits a much stronger cytotoxicity. Comparative chemoproteomic profiling of the targets of ibrutinib and MM2-48 revealed that the alkynyl amide warhead exhibits much higher reactivity in proteomes.

The present study aimed to identify the key genes that are associated with the progression of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma through weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA). A total of three gene datasets were downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus database, including GSE107943, GSE119336 and GSE26566. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma tissues and adjacent liver tissues were identified using GSE107943, while tissue specific genes between bile duct and liver tissues were identified using GSE26566.

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) exposure has been considered a risk factor for cardiovascular diseases (CVD), whereas possible mechanisms for this association have not been fully understood. This study focused on exploring the potential effect of oxidatively damaged DNA on the relationships between PAH exposure and the 10-year atherosclerotic CVD (ASCVD) risk. Urinary levels of monohydroxy PAH metabolites (OH-PAHs) and 8-oxo-7,8-dihydro-2'-deoxyguanosine (8-oxodG, the typical biomarker for oxidatively damaged DNA) were measured among 3052 subjects in the baseline of the Wuhan-Zhuhai cohort.

Background: Ventricular strain measurements vary depending on cardiac chamber (left ventricle [LV] or right ventricle [RV]), type of strain (longitudinal, circumferential, or radial), ventricular level (basal, mid, or apical), myocardial layer (endocardial or epicardial), and software used for analysis, among other demographic factors such as age and gender. Here, we present an analysis of ventricular strain taking all of these variables into account in a cohort of patients with no structural heart disease using a vendor-independent speckle-tracking software.

The Southern house mosquito Culex quinquefasciatus relies on its olfactory system to locate the human hosts for blood meals, by which several deadly diseases are transmitted. Olfactory sensory neurons (OSNs) housed in the sensilla on the olfactory appendages send their axons into the antennal lobes (ALs), the primary olfactory center in the brain, where the OSNs expressing the same olfactory receptors converge upon the same spherical structures known as glomeruli in the AL. A glaucoma model was established in New Zealand white rabbits, which were then treated with RFA of the ciliary body, utilizing an XL‑1‑type RF meter developed by the Chinese PLA General Hospital.
