Corrosion behavior, in vitro and in vivo biocompatibility of a newly developed Ti-16Nb-3Mo-1Sn superelastic alloy.

- The Ni-free Ti-16Nb-3Mo-1Sn superelastic alloy was tested for biocompatibility in vitro and in vivo, comparing its performance to commercial purity titanium (cp-Ti).
- Both materials showed stable corrosion behavior, but the alloy exhibited better hydrophilic properties that enhance cell attachment, as confirmed by cytocompatibility tests.
- In vivo studies with BALB/c rats indicated similar tissue reactions for both materials after 12 weeks, suggesting the alloy could be a safer alternative to nickel-containing biomedical materials.
