Palmoplantar pustulosis and pustulotic arthro-osteitis treatment with potassium iodide and tetracycline, a novel remedy with an old drug: a review of 25 patients.

Background: The use of potassium iodide (KI) to treat palmoplantar pustulosis (PPP) and pustulotic arthro-osteitis (PAO) has not previously been reported. Here, we report the first successful treatment of PPP and PAO with KI.

Patient And Methods: Among 25 patients with PPP, seven had an associated PAO.

Developmental Changes in Neonatal and Infant Skin Structures During the First 6 Months: In Vivo Observation.

Background/objectives: Developmental changes of structures in neonatal and infant skin have not been well characterized. The purpose of this study was to clarify changes in skin structures during neonatal and infant growth in vivo.

Methods: Fifteen healthy, full-term neonates (seven girls, eight boys) were studied.

Discoid lupus erythematosus exacerbated by contact dermatitis caused by use of squaric acid dibutylester for topical immunotherapy in a patient with alopecia areata.

A 57-year-old Japanese male patient with an 18-year history of discoid lupus erythematosus (DLE) presented with alopecia on his scalp, and was clinically diagnosed to have alopecia areata. He was started on topical immunotherapy with squaric acid dibutylester (SADBE) for the treatment of alopecia areata. The patient was first sensitized with the application of 2% SADBE on the right upper arm, followed subsequently by re-exposure to a low concentration of SADBE to provoke contact dermatitis on the scalp as treatment.
