  • The study aimed to compare patients with seronegative and seropositive primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS) by analyzing their medical records from 2010 to 2023.
  • Key findings revealed that seropositive patients exhibited more extraarticular manifestations, while dry mouth was notably more common in seronegative patients.
  • Additionally, while the two groups showed similar rates of certain complications, seropositive patients accounted for all the deaths observed in the study.

Detection of ignitable liquid residues in a fire scene is essential for determining the origin. Although studies are focused on the detection of residues of accelerants depending on time or matrices, the time-dependent effect of the water extinguishing method in a fire has not yet been investigated. Experimental studies are needed to determine how long ignitable liquid residues can be detected in water-extinguished evidence compared to the smothering method.

Inflammation involves a long chain of molecular reactions and cellular activity designed to repair tissue damaged by various causes. The inflammatory process and its complex mechanisms have recently become a focus of interest for many researchers. After the onset of inflammation, various adverse conditions that initiate the inflammatory response need to be addressed; however, failure to limit the inflammatory reaction may result in the damage or destruction of host cells.

Olanzapine (OLZ), a second-generation antipsychotic drug, is effective in the treatment of acute psychosis, schizophrenia, agitation, bipolar mania, and other psychiatric problems. Antipsychotics are prescribed drugs, which lead the drug abuser to illegal methods of access. This behavior also demonstrates the association of OLZ with criminal involvement, commonly observed at forensic crime scenes.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine the association of rheumatoid arthritis-related lung disease (RA-LD) and its subtypes with all-cause mortality.

Materials And Methods: For the present analyses, patients with RA who underwent computed tomography of the chest (chest-CT) were evaluated. RA-LD was defined in 4 subtypes as follows: interstitial lung disease (RA-ILD), airway disease (RA-AD), rheumatoid pulmonary nodules (RA-PN), and RA-related pleural disease (RA-PD).

Inorganic elements are added to toys as impurities to give desired stability, brightness, flexibility, and color; however, these elements may cause numerous health issues after acute or chronic exposure. In this study, the inorganic profile of 14 elements (Al, As, Ba, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Hg, Mn, Ni, Se, Sb, Pb, and Zn) in 63 toy makeup products was identified by inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry after microwave acid digestion method. Additionally, organic allergen fragrance was investigated by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry.

Purpose: The effect of urotensin II (U-II), a powerful endogenous vasoconstrictor substance, on the immune system and its mediators is very important. It was herein aimed to demonstrate the possible relationship between the calcineurin/nuclear factor of activated T-cells cytoplasmic 1/interleukin-2 (CaN/NFATc/IL-2) pathway and urotensin receptors (UTRs) in inflammatory response due to lipopolysaccharide (LPS).

Methods: An LPS-induced inflammation model was used on the human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) cell line and drugs were applied accordingly, forming the following groups: Control Group, LPS Group, Agonist Group (10 M U-II), Antagonist Group (10 M palosuran), Tacrolimus (TAC) Group (10 ng/mL FK-506), Agonist + TAC Group, and Antagonist + TAC Group.

Toxic elements that pose a potential threat to human health are found as impurities in various cosmetic products. In this study, the inorganic profile of 19 elements (Li, B, Mg, Al, Cr, Mn, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Se, Sr, Mo, Cd, Sb, Ba, Hg, and Pb) in 90 cosmetic products (lipsticks, lip glosses, lip pencils and eye shadows) were detected by inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry after microwave acid digestion method and hazard indices (HI) of 9 toxic elements (Pb, Cd, Cr, Ni, Co, As, Hg, Sb, and Al) were calculated for the assessment of theoretical health risk. Satisfactory method performance parameters were found for each analyte.

  • ANCA-associated vasculitis (AAV) is a rare disease that makes blood vessels inflamed and can lead to serious infections.
  • The study looked at 84 patients with AAV to find out what increases the risk of getting serious infections that need hospitalization.
  • It found that having lung and kidney problems, being older than 65, and having high levels of a protein called C-reactive protein (CRP) were important factors that made infections more likely.

  • This study aimed to compare the occurrence of Helicobacter pylori infection in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients who experienced gastrointestinal intolerance due to methotrexate (MTX) and those who did not.
  • Out of 390 analyzed patients, 41% exhibited MTX-related gastrointestinal intolerance, with higher rates of H. pylori and inflammation found in that group.
  • Logistic regression showed that both the presence of H. pylori and the use of specific biologic medications were significantly linked to the gastrointestinal issues caused by MTX.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to explore the protective effects of red dragon fruit extract (DFE) on gastric ulcers induced by indomethacin in rats, focusing on changes in oxidative stress markers and histopathological findings.
  • After treating the rats with DFE and inducing ulcers with indomethacin, the researchers noted significant improvements in oxidative stress levels in the groups that received DFE, particularly at higher doses of 500 mg/kg and 1000 mg/kg.
  • The findings suggest that DFE may mitigate gastric damage by lowering harmful markers like MDA and Caspase 3, while enhancing antioxidant levels, indicating a potential natural remedy for those suffering from gastric ulcers caused by NSAID use.
