Background: Previous studies have shown that the alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) response has been a key tumour marker in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), but its definition remains controversial. Recently, a new study has explored and defined the AFP serological response and used it to explain the subclass of intermediate-stage hepatocellular carcinoma (IM-HCC) with "sharp-falling" AFP change after transarterial chemoembolization (TACE). It may be a new and simple tool for assessing the prognosis of patients.

Keratan sulfate glycosaminoglycan is composed of repeating N-acetyllactosamine (LacNAc) disaccharide units consisting of galactose (Gal) and N-acetylglucosamine (GlcNAc), both often 6-O-sulfated. Sulfate contents of keratan sulfate are heterogeneous depending upon the origins. In this study, keratan sulfate is classified as either highly sulfated (in which both GlcNAc and Gal residues are 6-O-sulfated) or low-sulfated (in which only GlcNAc residues are 6-O-sulfated).

Gastric cancer (GC) is usually diagnosed in an advanced stage at the first visit due to the atypical clinical symptoms. The low surgical resection rate and chemotherapy sensitivity result in dismal survival. Therefore, it is urgent to develop novel biomarkers with high sensitivity and specificity to accurately assess the prognosis of GC patients.

To explore the role of atorvastatin in regulating intraocular pressure (IOP) in glaucoma , and to investigate its related molecular pathway , an ocular hypertension model was generated by intravitreal injection of an adenoviral vector encoding transforming growth factor (TGF)‑β2 in the right eye of BALB/cJ mice, while the left was treated with an empty control adenovirus. To determine its anti‑intraocular hypertension role, these induced hyper‑IOP mice were gavaged with atorvastatin (20 mg/kg/day). Furthermore, extracellular matrix (ECM) factors were examined in the primary human trabecular meshwork (HTM) cells followed atorvastatin (0~200 µM) treatment .

Previous reports have shown that histone deacetylase inhibitors (HDACi) can alter miRNA expression in a range of cancers. Both the 5p-arm and 3p-arm of mature miRNAs can be expressed from the same precursor and involved in cancer progress. Nevertheless, the detailed mechanism by which vorinostat (SAHA), a HDACi, triggers miR-769-5p/miR-769-3p-mediated suppression of proliferation and induces apoptosis in gastric cancer (GC) cells remains elusive.
