Androgen-dependent prostate cancer (ADPC) eventually progresses to androgen-independent prostate cancer (AIPC), that has a poor prognosis owing to its unclear mechanism and lack of effective therapeutic targets. The human positive cofactor 4 (PC4) is a transcriptional cofactor, and plays a potential role in cancer development. However, the significance and mechanism of PC4 in AIPC progression are unclear.

Increased expression of lncRNA p53 upregulated regulator of P53 levels (PURPL) has been reported to promote tumorigenicity in colorectal cancer; however, the role and potential mechanisms of PURPL in the development of liver cancer remain unclear. We employed reverse transcription‑quantitative polymerase chain reaction to detect PURPL and p53 mRNA expression in liver cancer tissues and cell lines.

In the era of the Internet of Everything, millions of devices and links in IoT pose more significant challenges to data management. Most existing solutions employ centralized systems to control IoT devices, which brings about the privacy and security issues in IoT data management.

This study aims to quantitatively describe the gradual collapse behavior of human IJVs during head-up tilt tests from supine to erect.
Approach: Ten male and ten female subjects were enrolled in head-up tilt tests.
In this study, 32 surface soil samples, 24 groundwater samples, and 6 tap water samples were collected around a perfluorosulfonates (PFSAs) manufactory in China to analyze the distributions of perfluoroalkyl acids (PFAAs) including linear and branched isomers. The total concentrations of PFAAs (∑PFAAs) ranged from 1.30 to 913 ng/g on a dry weight basis (dw), 31.

However, the clinical significance and the molecular mechanisms of PC4 in breast cancer development and progression are still unknown.
Methods: We investigated PC4 expression in 114 cases of primary breast cancer and matched normal breast tissue specimens, and studied the impact of PC4 expression as well as the molecular mechanisms of this altered expression on breast cancer growth and metastasis both in vitro and in vivo.
Yogurt is a popular product worldwide partly because of the health-promoting effects of the probiotics that it contains. Probiotics with high survivability constitute a promising direction for fortified yogurt products. This study aimed to prepare Bifidobacterium breve-loaded yogurt with the bacteria surviving transit to the lower part of small intestine or colon.

Pulsatile tinnitus (PT) is a common symptom in otology. In some cases, the venous flow in the sigmoid sinus (SS) is the source of PT. It is suggested that the venous sound is propagated into the tympanic cavity through the air pathway of temporal bone air cells (TBAC).

Relatively low concentrations of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) (ΣPCBs: 1.5-29.

Previous studies have focused on human CP exposure through food intake; however, the migration behaviors of CPs from food packaging into food are yet to be assessed. Herein, we used four food simulants (water, 3% acetic acid, 15% ethanol, and hexane) to investigate the migration of CPs from food packaging into food.

Few studies explore the effect of stress or time pressure on a third-party judge. Under time pressure, people will likely show a more instinctual reaction or judgment style.

Exposure to PFOS could cause increase of liver weight, induce adenomas of the liver, and cause hepatomegaly. Alternatives of PFOS might be designed and synthesized that have significantly lower liver bioaccumulation.

Fast 3D imaging and measurement of cells are of great importance in many fields associated with the life science. In this paper, only using two phase images in orthogonal directions, a geometric rotation method for 3D fast morphology reconstruction is proposed in view of more spheroid cells in blood cells. In this method, at first, the edges of a cell in two orthogonal projection directions are extracted from the corresponding phase images, and theirs centers and axes are determined.

Here, we investigated whether SAA1 was involved in the rupture of fetal membranes, a crucial event in parturition accompanied with extensive degradation of collagens.

Sigmoid sinus (SS) venous sound is widely suggested to be a possible sound source of PT. The dehiscence and thinness of SS cortical plate (CP) was commonly reported as PT pathology in previous studies, but lack quantitative or biomechanical analysis.

However, the mechanisms underlying fluoride-mediated male reproductive damage in vivo remain largely unknown. Considerable evidence has now revealed ER stress is closely linked with testicular oxidative damage.

The congener profiles of PBDEs were symmetrical between gas and moss, as well as between particles and soil at Ny-Ålesund and KGI, respectively, similar to a "mirror image". The proportions of highly brominated congeners (for example, BDE-99, -153 and -183) in the particle phase and soil were higher than those in the gas phase and moss, while tri- and tetra-BDEs possessed higher proportions in the gas phase and moss at both sites.

Both β-amyloid (Aβ) catabolism and epigenetic regulation play critical roles in the onset of neurodegeneration. The latter also contribute to Pb neurotoxicity. The present study explored the role of epigenetic modifiers and Aβ degradation enzymes in Pb-induced latent effects on Aβ overproduction in vitro.

The geometric mean concentration of SCCPs and MCCPs in dusts from plastic tracks (5429 and 15157 μg g) and basketball courts (5139 and 11878 μg g) were significantly higher than those from plastic tennis courts, badminton courts, and synthetic turf; meanwhile, they were 1-3 orders of magnitude higher than in dusts from other indoor environments. The friction between sneaker soles and plastic track materials may lead to the wear and decomposition of rubber, which may be an important source of chlorinated paraffins (CPs) in the dust from plastic tracks.

Our previous study revealed that a significant amount of medium-chain chlorinated paraffins (MCCPs), short-chain chlorinated paraffins (SCCPs) as well as aromatic and chlorinated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (Cl-PAHs) were formed synergistically during the thermal decomposition of CP-52 (a class of CP products). However, the transformation mechanisms of CP-52 to these compounds are still not very clear.
