The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C(12)H(16)O(2), contains two independent mol-ecules in which the dihedral angles between the benzene and cyclo-propane rings are 75.9 (3) and 76.3 (3)°.

The cascade radical cyclization-ring-opening-anionic cyclization allowed facile and efficient access to 2-(2-hydroxyalkyl)cyclopropanols from readily available materials.
