Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography (PET/CT) combines metabolic and anatomical information improving the precision and accuracy of oncological diagnostics. The standardized uptake value (SUV) measures tumor metabolism, yet its accuracy is influenced by the partial volume effect (PVE), impacting small lesion detection. This study aims to refine PVE corrections for small lesions using an in-house customized, special anthropomorphic phantom.

Granulomatous Eccrine Hidradenitis. A New Histopathological Entity?

The term "hidradenitis" designates diseases with inflammatory infiltrate around a sweat gland. Neutrophilic eccrine hidradenitis (NEH) is a reactive disorder usually induced by malignancy or chemotherapeutics, characterized by typically erythematous, edematous papules and plaques on the extremities, trunk, face, and palmar and plantar regions. In histopathology, dense neutrophilic infiltration around the eccrine gland can be seen.

Donor-derived cell-free DNA for detection of acute rejection in lung transplant recipients.

Introduction: Acute rejection is a significant risk factor for developing chronic lung allograft dysfunction. Current monitoring tools, transbronchial biopsies and HLA antibody determination, have limitations in detecting acute rejection. This study aims to explore the potential utility of donor-derived cell-free DNA (ddcfDNA) as a non-invasive biomarker for detecting acute rejection in lung transplant recipients (LTR).

Propensity score matched comparison of lymph node upstaging in early-stage lung cancer: open versus minimally invasive surgery with standardized lymphadenectomy.

Background: Lymph node upstaging represents a quality criterion for standardized lymphadenectomy in lung cancer surgery. The aim of the study was to compare whether the quality of standardized lymphadenectomy in lung cancer surgery is comparable in minimally invasive (video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery) and the open approach (thoracotomy). Furthermore, factors associated with lymph node upstaging were assessed, as was its impact on overall survival and progression-free survival.

Choosing a pediatric surgery career: affecting factors and status assessment.

Purpose: This study aims to investigate the factors influencing career choices in pediatric surgery with a focus on gender and generational differences in Türkiye.

Methods: A cross-sectional survey study was conducted. A questionnaire, consisting of 42 questions was developed and distributed to pediatric surgeons via email and other digital platforms.

Investigation of the Effect of Local and Systemic Preoperative Dexamethasone Application on Bone Tissue Healing in Mandibular Bone Defects.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of locally and systemically delivered single-dose corticosteroid injections on bone tissue.

Study Design: A total of 84 Wistar albino rats were divided into 2 groups as local and systemic injection groups, and 2 groups as control and experiment among themselves. Before the procedure, dexamethasone was given to the experimental group and physiological saline was given to the control group.

The Effect of Combining Blood Flow Restriction with the Nordic Hamstring Exercise on Hamstring Strength: Randomized Controlled Trial.

It is a matter of curiosity what effect the blood flow restriction (BFR) method, which is usually combined with low-intensity resistance exercises, will have when used with high-intensity eccentric exercises. The present study examined the effects of combining BFR with nordic hamstring exercises (NHEs) on hamstring muscle strength, bilateral deficit (BLD), and training volume. Thirty young female volleyball players, who trained three times a week, participated voluntarily in the study.

Evaluation of late effects during a 21-year follow-up of pediatric Hodgkin lymphoma survivors: Experience of a pediatric cancer center in Turkey, as a developing country model.

Background: Long-term survivors of Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) are at risk of developing a range of late effects, with a second malignant neoplasm and cardiovascular diseases being the leading causes of death in these patients. The present study aims to evaluate the late side effects in children with HL.

Materials And Methods: Out of 53 HL patients, we assessed the long-term effects of childhood HL survivors (HLSs; n = 50) diagnosed between 1998 and 2019.

Preoperative Hilar and Mediastinal Lymph Node Staging in Patients with Suspected or Diagnosed Lung Cancer: Accuracy of 18F-FDG-PET/CT:A Retrospective Cohort Study of 138 Patients.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of integrated 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission computed tomography (18F-FDG-PET/CT) in hilar and mediastinal lymph node (HMLN) staging of suspected or proven lung cancer, and to investigate potential risk factors for false negative and false positive HMLN metastases. We retrospectively analyzed 162 consecutive patients with suspected or pathologically proven non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was generated to determine the diagnostic efficacy of 18F-FDG-PET/CT.

Therapeutic effect of alendronate in an experimental temporomandibular joint osteoarthritis.

Background: Temporomandibular joint osteoarthritis is a common degenerative joint disease. This disease negatively affects the daily life, speech and chewing functions of patients.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of intra-articular injection of alendronate to osteoarthritis, which has a protective effect on bone and cartilage tissue and helps reduce inflammation in temporomandibular joint osteoarthritis.

The effect of an interactive robot on children's post-operative anxiety, mobilization, and parents' satisfaction; randomized controlled study.

Purpose: To evaluate the effect of an interactive robot on Turkish children's post-operative anxiety, mobilization, and parents' satisfaction related to post-operative care.

Method: A randomized controlled study was conducted with 84 children who will undergo day surgery aged 5-10 years and their parents at a university hospital between June 2020-April 2022. The interactive robot was provided to accompany the children during the postoperative mobilization.

Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome after lung transplantation: Risk factors and management.

Introduction: Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome is a rare neurologic complication that can occur under immunosuppressive therapy with CNI after organ transplantation.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed medical records of 545 patients who underwent lung transplantation between 2012 and 2019. Within this group, we identified 30 patients with neurological symptoms typical of PRES and compared the characteristics of patients who were diagnosed with PRES (n = 11) to those who were not (n = 19).

Late outcomes in children and adolescents with non-Hodgkin lymphoma: A single-center experience.

Background: Non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) includes pathologies of different clinical courses, treatments, outcomes. Our study aims to investigate the late effects of NHL survivors (NHLS).

Materials And Methods: Among 59 NHL cases, 50 survivors completed their NHL treatment between 2003 and 2019.

Purpose: This study aimed to radiographically determine tinnitus and joint disorders by evaluating glenoid fossa depth and the horizontal angle of the ramus mandible in patients with isolated temporomandibular joint disorder and temporomandibular joint disorder with tinnitus by computed tomography (CT).

Methods: In total, eighty two patients with temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) (forty two patients with tinnitus; forty patients without tinnitus) were evaluated using CT. CT images were analysed according to glenoid fossa depth and the horizontal angle of the ramus.

COVID-19 in Recent Lung Transplant Recipients: Clinical Outcomes and Management Strategies.

Background: COVID-19 causes a wide range of symptoms, with particularly high risk of severe respiratory failure and death in patients with predisposing risk factors such as advanced age or obesity. Recipients of solid organ transplants, and in particular lung transplantation, are more susceptible to viral infection owing to immune suppressive medication. As little is known about the SARS-CoV-2 infection in these patients, this study was undertaken to describe outcomes and potential management strategies in early COVID-19 infection early after lung transplantation.

Analyses of Youtube Videos on Botox Treatment of Gummy Smile.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the content quality and accuracy of the YouTube videos about the Botox application during gummy smile treatment and to analyze the efficacy of these videos in informing the healthcare professionals and the patients.

Materials And Methods: The first 200 videos resulting from the search on YouTube by using the keywords "gummy smile/Botox," which were determined by Google Trends, were evaluated in the study. One hundred fourteen out of these 200 videos were included in the study.

Clinic experience in discoid lupus erythematosus: a retrospective study of 132 cases.

Introduction: Lupus erythematosus (LE) is an autoimmune disease characterized by a broad range of cutaneous manifestations. Discoid LE (DLE) is the most common chronic manifestation of LE. Literature reviews show that there are a limited number of large-series studies investigating DLE.

Background: Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory, multi-system disease that often begins in childhood and characterised by inflammatory skin, nails, scalp, and joint manifestations. The inflammation in psoriasis may promote some effect on the cardiac conduction system.

Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate myocardial repolarisation anomaly on the conducting system in the paediatric psoriasis using P wave dispersion, Tpeak-Tend interval, and Tp-e/QT ratio.

Pemphigus in the eastern region of Turkey.

Introduction: Pemphigus refers to a group of rare autoimmune vesiculobullous diseases with high morbidity and mortality, mainly affecting the skin and the mucosae.

Aim: To evaluate the incidence of pemphigus in the Eastern region of Turkey by analysing the clinical characteristics of the patients including the drugs used in the treatment and their side-effect profiles and dosing schedules, duration of treatment, length of hospital stay, and the characteristics of the lesions.

Material And Methods: The retrospective study included 130 pemphigus patients who were admitted to the in- and out-patient dermatology clinics at the University Medical School between January 2005 and October 2017.
