Developing Chemical Signatures for Categories of Household Consumer Products Using Suspect Screening Analysis.

Consumer products are a major source of chemicals that may pose a health risk. It is important to understand what chemicals are in these products to evaluate risk and assess new products for uncommon ingredients. Suspect screening analysis (SSA) using two-dimensional gas chromatography-high-resolution-time-of-flight/mass spectrometry (GCxGC-HR-TOF/MS) was applied to 92 consumer products from 5 categories.

Discovery of ART0380, a Potent and Selective ATR Kinase Inhibitor Undergoing Phase 2 Clinical Studies for the Treatment of Advanced or Metastatic Solid Cancers.

One of the hallmarks of cancer is high levels of DNA replication stress and defects in the DNA damage response (DDR) pathways, which are critical for maintaining genomic integrity. Ataxia telangiectasia and Rad3-related protein (ATR) is a key regulator of the DDR machinery and an attractive therapeutic target, with multiple ATR inhibitors holding significant promise in ongoing clinical studies. Herein, we describe the discovery and characterization of ART0380 (), a potent and selective ATR inhibitor with a compelling in vitro and in vivo pharmacological profile currently undergoing Phase 2 clinical studies in patients with advanced or metastatic solid tumors as monotherapy and in combination with DNA-damaging agents (NCT04657068 and NCT05798611).

Discerning Emittable from Extractable Chemicals Identified in Consumer Products by Suspect Screening GCxGC-TOFMS.

Characterization of chemicals in household products is important for understanding this potential source of chemical exposure. Increasingly, suspect screening and nontargeted analysis techniques are used to characterize as many chemical signatures as possible. Solids such as household products are most conveniently prepared using solvent extraction, revealing what chemicals are contained within the product matrix but providing no information about the potential of those chemicals to leave the matrix and cause actual exposure.

Safety and Efficacy of Coil Embolization for Endoleak Prevention as an Adjunct to Endovascular Repair of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm or Subsequently for the Repair of Endoleak.

Objective: This study assessed the real-world safety and efficacy of coil embolization during endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) for prophylactic endoleak prevention or as a reintervention for endoleak repair, using the Cerenovus family of coils (Cerenovus, Irvine, CA, USA).

Methods: This was a multicenter, retrospective cohort study of consecutive patients who underwent embolization of branching arteries during EVAR of an AAA or as a reintervention for endoleak repair, using Cerenovus coils between January 2017 and December 2021 in Japan. The primary outcome was 30-day reintervention-free survival, defined as cardiovascular mortality or any complication requiring reintervention within 30 days post procedure.

Injectable Janus Base Nanomatrix (JBNm) in Maintaining Long-Term Homeostasis of Regenerated Cartilage for Tissue Chip Applications.

Engineered cartilage tissues have wide applications in in vivo cartilage repair as well as in vitro models, such as cartilage-on-a-chip or cartilage tissue chips. Currently, most cartilage tissue engineering approaches focus on promoting chondrogenesis of stem cells to produce regenerated cartilage. However, this regenerated cartilage can dedifferentiate into fibrotic tissue or further differentiate into hypertrophic or calcified cartilage.

Phage display screening in breast cancer: From peptide discovery to clinical applications.

Breast cancer is known as the most common type of cancer found in women and a leading cause of cancer death in women, with the global incidence only increasing. Breast cancer in Malaysia is also unfortunately the most prevalent in Malaysian women. Many treatment options are available for breast cancer, but there is increasing resistance developed against treatment and increased recurrence risk, emphasizing the need for new treatment options.

Timing of Pediatric Breast Reduction and Insurance Coverage: Single-institution Retrospective Study.

Background: Although long-term benefits of reduction mammaplasty have been proven, the appropriate age for adolescent reduction mammaplasty has been highly debated due to possible need for revision surgery. Practitioners often delay offering breast reduction to adolescents below age 18 based on presumed insurance denial. We reviewed trends in insurance denial at a single children's hospital to analyze whether age and/or insurance carriers have a significant impact on coverage of breast reduction.

Home injuries in British Columbia: patterns across the deprivation spectrum.

The significant burden of home injuries has become a growing concern that affect thousands of people every year across Canada. This study examined the relationship between neighbourhood deprivation and unintentional injuries occurring at home leading to hospitalizations in British Columbia (BC) between 2015 and 2019. This study used de-identified hospitalization data on unintentional home-related injuries from the Discharge Abstract Database (DAD) and population data for each dissemination area from Statistics Canada's 2016 Census Profiles.

Students Matriculating into Integrated Plastic Surgery: Are all Medical Schools Equal?

Introduction: Becoming a craniofacial/pediatric plastic surgeon depends on completing a plastic surgery (PS) residency. As medical school curricula for PS exposure are highly inconsistent, the authors investigated whether there was an association between the presence of PS elective rotations and/or home programs in medical schools with the proportion of students matriculating into integrated PS residency.

Methods: A list of 198 medical schools was compiled from the Association for American Medical Colleges and the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine.

Effect of Training Backgrounds on Plastic Surgery Leadership: A Logistic Regression Analysis.

Background: Although career choices are often shaped by training and mentors, it is not clear how training backgrounds have influenced whether plastic surgeons pursue leadership positions. Analysis of these training pathways can serve as a key component of career planning for future leaders.

Methods: The American Board of Plastic Surgery's annual was used to collate surgeons receiving board certification between 2002 and 2013.

The impact of surgical elective exposure during medical school upon residency match rates.

Objective: This study aims to investigate potential differences in surgical subspecialty match rates between medical schools with and without elective rotations in the respective surgical subspecialties.

Design: Data on duration of surgical rotations were retrieved from each school's public website. Fisher exact tests were performed to identify any statistically significant differences in surgical specialty match rates by allopathic versus osteopathic and elective clinical exposure.

The Cost-effectiveness of Enhanced Recovery after Surgery Protocols in Abdominally Based Autologous Breast Reconstruction.

Background: The purpose of this study was to conduct a systematic review on the cost-effectiveness of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols in abdominally based autologous breast reconstruction. Further, we reviewed the use of liposomal bupivacaine transversus abdominis plane (TAP) blocks in abdominal autologous reconstruction.

Methods: PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, and Scopus were used for literature review, and PRISMA guidelines were followed.

Visibility of International Rotations on Plastic Surgery Program Websites.

Plastic surgery residency programs are offering increasing opportunities for international rotations, recognizing the importance of early exposure and the need to promote better capacity building in host countries. While a greater number of residency programs are offering international opportunities, it is not clear whether applicants are aware of these opportunities based on program websites. The purpose of this study was to determine the availability and ease of access to international rotation information on plastic surgery residency websites.

Hyponatremia in the Context of Liver Disease.

Hyponatremia is common in patients with liver disease and is associated with increased mortality, morbidity, and a reduced quality of life. In liver transplantation, the inclusion of hyponatremia in organ allocation scores has reduced waitlist mortality. Portal hypertension and the resulting lowering of the effective arterial blood volume are important pathogenetic factors, but in most patients with liver disease, hyponatremia is multifactorial.

In-Space Fabrication of Janus Base Nano-Matrix for Improved Assembly and Bioactivities.

In-space manufacturing of nanomaterials is a promising concept while having limited successful examples. DNA-inspired Janus base nanomaterials (JBNs), used for therapeutics delivery and tissue regeneration, are fabricated via a controlled self-assembly process in water at ambient temperature, making them highly suitable for in-space manufacturing. For the first time, we designed and accomplished the production of JBNs on orbit during the Axiom-2 (Ax-2) mission demonstrating great promising and benefits of in-space manufacturing of nanomaterials.

Coverage of Congenital Anomalies: Ensuring Lasting Smiles Act in Legislation.

The Ensuring Lasting Smiles Act (ELSA) is a federal bill that would require all health federally regulated insurance products to cover the full treatment of a congenital anomaly or congenital disability until complete restoration of normal function or appearance. ELSA has been a key federal priority for the Legislative Advocacy Committee of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons since the 115th Congress in 2018. Although it has gained momentum, particularly in the 117th Congress, the bill remains stalled.

A group-based transdiagnostic sleep and circadian treatment for major depressive disorder: A randomized controlled trial.

Objective: Sleep and circadian disturbance is highly comorbid with a range of psychological disorders, especially major depressive disorder (MDD). In view of the complexity of sleep and circadian problems in MDD, this study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of a group-based transdiagnostic intervention for sleep and circadian dysfunction (TranS-C) for improving depressive symptoms and sleep and circadian functions.

Method: One hundred fifty-two adults diagnosed with comorbid MDD and sleep and circadian dysfunctions were randomized into TranS-C group treatment (TranS-C; = 77) or care as usual (CAU; = 75) control group.
