The crystal morphology of silicalite-1 was adjusted through a microemulsion-based hydrothermal synthesis. The surfactant cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) with cosurfactant butanol was used to form water-in-oil microemulsions containing the silicalite-1 synthesis gel. The crystal morphology of silicalite-1 was adjusted from coffin-shaped to novel rod-shaped and to irregular-shaped nanoparticles by varying the microemulsion composition.

In this study, the role of ERalpha and ERbeta in folliculogenesis and ovulation was further analyzed. Evaluation of ovarian follicle populations in wild-type and ERbeta knockout (betaERKO) ovaries revealed reduced late antral growth and ovulatory capacity of betaERKO follicles, indicated by reduced numbers of large antral follicles and corpora lutea and increased atresia of large antral follicles.

Post-translational control occurs through the reversible ADP-ribosylation of dinitrogenase reductase (Fe Protein), mediated by the dinitrogenase reductase ADP-ribosyltransferase (DraT) and dinitrogenase reductase glycohydrolase (DraG). Although the DraT and DraG activities are regulated in vivo, the molecules responsible for such regulation remain unknown.

All the Beijing genotype strains were fully drug sensitive. Contact histories, TB type, and case-fatality rates were similar for Beijing and non-Beijing genotype TB.

The aim of the study presented here was to identify patients with multidrug resistant tuberculosis (MDRTB) in the Samara region of Russia and to analyze the susceptibility of their isolates to second-line drugs in order to develop an empirical, standard, second-line treatment regimen. Treatment of MDRTB can be individualized based on in vitro laboratory analysis or standardized. In the latter case there is still a need to ascertain local second-line drug-resistance patterns.

Compressed CO(2) was emulsified into aqueous suspensions of biodegradable particles. The CO(2) plasticizes the biodegradable polymers, increasing the drug diffusion rate in the particles so that drug loading is enhanced.

It remains unknown whether this can be translated into improved diagnosis, classification, or outcome prediction. We studied a cohort of well-characterized follicular adenomas (FA), FTC, and Hurthle cell carcinomas (HCC) from patients with complete clinical follow-up, to determine whether PPARgamma immunohistochemistry (as a surrogate of PAX8/PPARgamma expression) helps to distinguish FA from FTC and to assess its diagnostic accuracy as an adjunct to frozen section.

The Azospirillum brasilense mutant strains FP8 and FP9, after treatment with nitrosoguanidine, showed a null Nif phenotype and were unable to use nitrate as their sole nitrogen source. Sequencing of the ntrC genes revealed single nucleotide mutations in the NtrC nucleotide-binding site. The phenotypes of these strains are discussed in relation to their genotypes.

Prior to immobilization, dextransucrase was treated with dextranase to remove the dextran layer covering the enzyme surface, thus increasing the accessibility of its reactive groups to the epoxide centers of the support. Elimination of 99% of the initial carbohydrate content was determined by the anthrone method.

The results of the first experiment revealed that words with large phonological neighborhoods were verified more rapidly than words with small phonological neighborhoods. In the second experiment, we replicated this effect with a more tightly controlled set of stimuli.

Methods: Cultures from individuals in northern Malawi who had been diagnosed with tuberculosis (TB) during 1996-2001 were fingerprinted with restriction fragment-length polymorphism (RFLP).

New and improved methods have been developed to detect somatic and male-specific coliphages in large volumes of water by single agar layer (SAL), enrichment and membrane filter methods. Somatic coliphages were detected efficiently on E. coli hosts C and CN13, male-specific coliphages were detected more efficiently on E.

A 125-bp, highly conserved 5' noncoding region of HAV was targeted. The sensitivity of the real-time RT-PCR assay was tested with 10-fold dilutions of viral RNA, and a detection limit of 1 PFU was obtained.

Two rodent models of LH hypersecretion are the transgenic LHbeta-C-terminal peptide (LHbetaCTP) and estrogen receptor-alpha (ERalpha)-null (alphaERKO) mice. Both exhibit ovarian phenotypes of chronic anovulation, cystic and hemorrhagic follicles, lack of corpora lutea, interstitial/stromal hyperplasia, and elevated plasma estradiol and testosterone.

The Herbaspirillum seropedicae RecX protein participates in the SOS response: a process in which the RecA protein plays a central role. The RecX protein of the H. seropedicae, fused to a His-tag sequence (RecX His-tagged), was over-expressed in Escherichia coli and purified by metal-affinity chromatography to yield a highly purified and active protein.

As the first step to understand how chronic hypoxia might regulate smooth muscle function in health and disease, we have employed an established immortalised cell model of smooth muscle, DDT1-MF2 cells, to address the hypothesis that adenosine A1 receptor density is modulated by O2 availability. Maximal specific binding (Bmax) of the selective adenosine A1 receptor antagonist, [3H]-DPCPX, to cell membranes increased 3.5-fold from 0.

Targeted disruption of the different ER genes has generated experimental animal models that are very useful in evaluating the distinct and cooperative roles of the two estrogen receptors, ERalpha and ERbeta, in reproductive but also non-reproductive tissues of both sexes. Phenotypic analysis has provided definitive experimental findings for estrogen receptor mediated physiological actions, involving ERalpha in uterine, mammary gland and neuroendocrine sites. ERbeta is involved most dramatically in the ovary as is ERalpha.

Characterization studies indicated clearly that aircraft height, small drop emission distribution, and the ambient winds combine to dilute the spray cloud before impacting surface targets. A 5-fold increase in mortality was achieved when we used optimization techniques to position the aircraft during a crosswind treatment test.

Mutations in nifX or orf1 genes did not affect nif gene expression since a nifH::lacZ fusion was fully active in both mutants. nifX and the contiguous gene orf1 are essential for maximum nitrogen fixation under iron limitation and are probably involved in synthesis of nitrogenase iron or iron-molybdenum clusters.
