More recent variants, notably Omicron, have evolved by swapping several amino acids to positively charged residues to enhance the interaction of the S-protein trimer with the negatively charged HS. However, these enhanced interactions may reduce Omicron's ability to move through the HS-rich ECM to effectively find ACE2 receptors and infect cells, raising the question of how to mechanistically explain HS-associated viral movement.

While transition-to-practice programming exists for the new graduate nurse, there is less focus on preparing the student in their final year of education.

Galectin-3 contributes to pathogenesis of IgA nephropathy.

IgA nephropathy (IgAN) is the most common type of glomerulonephritis that frequently progresses to kidney failure. However, the molecular pathogenesis underlying IgAN remains largely unknown. Here, we investigated the role of galectin-3 (Gal-3), a galactoside-binding protein in IgAN pathogenesis, and showed that Gal-3 expression by the kidney was significantly enhanced in patients with IgAN.

Surgical site infection prevention bundle in gynecology oncology surgery: a key element in the implementation of an enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) program.

Surgical site infection rates are among 5-35% in all gynecologic oncology procedures. Such infections lead to increased patient morbidity, reduction in quality of life, higher likelihood of readmissions, and reinterventions, which contribute directly to mortality and increase in health-related costs. Some of these are potentially preventable by applying evidence-based strategies in the peri-operative patient setting.

In the last decade, we have witnessed important advances in novel therapeutics in the management of gynecologic cancers. Objective: To determine if reviewer experience impacts the ability to discriminate between human-written and ChatGPT-written abstracts.

Methods: Thirty reviewers (10 seniors, 10 juniors, and 10 residents) were asked to differentiate between 10 ChatGPT-written and 10 human-written (fabricated) abstracts. For the study, 10 gynecologic oncology abstracts were fabricated by the authors.

Pregnant individuals with viral illness may experience significant morbidity and have higher rates of pregnancy and neonatal complications. With the growing number of viral infections and new viral pandemics, it is important to examine the effects of infection during pregnancy on both the gestational parent and the offspring. Febrile illness and inflammation during pregnancy are correlated with risk for autism, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, and developmental delay in the offspring in human and animal models.

Ultrasound-guided nerve blocks (UGNBs) are becoming a more common method for pain control in the emergency department. Specifically, brachial plexus blocks have shown promise for acute upper extremity injuries as well as an alternative to procedural sedation for glenohumeral reductions. Unfortunately, there is minimal discussion in the EM literature regarding phrenic nerve paralysis (a well-known complication from brachial plexus blocks).

The Gaza Strip is a notoriously high-conflict area, but few large-scale studies have examined the rates of psychiatric distress and emotional/behavioral problems among Gaza youth, and there are few trauma-informed, scaleable intervention options. Studies in existence have used smaller samples or have examined focal problems such as posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or aggression. Here, we examine the mental health burden of young individuals (ages 8-13) in Gaza across a broad range of symptoms, and demonstrate the impact of a community-based, trauma-informed program, Eye to the Future.
