Restoring degraded land to combat environmental degradation requires the collection of vast quantities of germplasm (seed). Sourcing this material raises questions related to provenance selection, seed quality and harvest sustainability. Restoration guidelines strongly recommend using local sources to maximize local adaptation and prevent outbreeding depression, but in highly modified landscapes this restricts collection to small remnants where limited, poor quality seed is available, and where harvesting impacts may be high.

However, because CXCR3 equivalently binds four different ELR-devoid CXC chemokines (ie, PF4/CXCL4, IP-10/CXCL10, MIG/CXCL9, and IP-9/CXCL11), we sought to identify the ligand that coordinates epidermal coverage with the maturation of the underlying superficial dermis. Because CXCL11 (IP-9 or I-TAC) is produced by redifferentiating keratinocytes late in the regenerative phase when re-epithelialization is completed and matrix maturation ensues, we generated mice in which an antisense construct (IP-9AS) eliminated IP-9 expression during the wound-healing process.

A current area of focus is the similarities between how cancer cells interact with the ectopic parenchyma after metastatic spread, and secondary developmental MET events that occur in epithelial tissues that have re-assembled within the embryo from mesenchymal cells. Accumulating evidence suggests a critical role for these secondary events, termed mesenchymal-epithelial transitions (MET) in development and mesenchymal-epithelial reverting transitions (MErT) in cancer.

Background: Although traumatic dislocation of the hip often occurs as a result of automobile accidents, dislocations have been reported to occur during sports activities.
Objective: Using the experience in treating a 17-year-old high school football player with a posterior dislocation, complicated by involvement of the sciatic nerve, this case report provides background information on hip dislocations and provides a description of the immediate treatment by the physician, followed by 6 weeks of immobilization, and a detailed account of the 5-month intervention.
Case Description: The patient was injured while making a tackle during a high school football game when another player fell on him from behind.
Several DNA- and microtubule-binding agents are used to manage hematologic malignancies in the clinic. However, drug resistance has been a challenge, perhaps due to a few surviving cancer stem cells. Toxicity is another major impediment to successful chemotherapy, leading to an impoverished quality of life.

Transition-metal-bound complex ions containing the chiral phthaloylglutamic acid and its dimethyl ester are generated by ESI mass spectrometry and subjected to collision-induced dissociation. The ratio of the two competitive dissociation rates is related to the enantiomeric composition of the drug mixture.

Purpose: Tetrahydroisoquinolines (THIs) have demonstrated anti-cancer activity in rodent models of glioma, a form of brain cancer refractory to therapeutic intervention. In this study, peripheral and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pharmacokinetics in rats were determined to assess the drug developability of the novel THI EDL-155 for the treatment of glioma.
Methods: Serial blood and CSF samples were collected from rats following intravenous bolus administration of EDL-155 (10-20 mg/kg).
Detection of doping agents in urine frequently requires extensive separation prior to chemical analyses. Gas or liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry has produced accurate and sensitive assays, but chromatographic separations require time and, sometimes, chemical derivatization. To avoid such tedious and lengthy procedures, vacuum matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization (vMALDI) coupled with the linear ion trap mass spectrometry (LIT/MS) technique is tested for its applicability as a rapid screening technique.

To explore MIF as a molecular target and candidate gene in ALI, the MIF gene and protein expression were examined in murine and canine models of ALI (high tidal volume mechanical ventilation, endotoxin exposure) and in patients with either sepsis or sepsis-induced ALI. MIF gene expression and protein levels were significantly increased in each ALI model, with serum MIF levels significantly higher in patients with either sepsis or ALI compared with healthy controls (African- and European-descent).

Paternity analysis using six microsatellite loci identified a pollen source within populations for 67% of seedlings, and the remainder were assumed to have arisen from pollen sources outside the populations. Outcrossing was variable, ranging from 5% to 82%, and long-distance pollen dispersal was observed in all populations with up to 43% of pollen sourced from outside the populations over distances of up to 5 km.

Methods And Results: Primers were designed that flanked either side of each of the predicted Xba1 restriction sites, and the resultant PCR products were sequenced. No sequencing errors were found in the published genome.
